How much is gas at the dragon
I think the deal is (no pun intended) that Fontana just wants to make a decent profit on their gas, since they can (convenience charge.) Most retailers these days make about one or two percent of their total profit on gas. The real profits come from their convenience store sales. (A friend of mine owned a couple of mom/pop gas stations for awhile and he made more profit on lighters every week than on gas. Turns out those cheap .69 lighters only cost about a nickle each in bulk.)
Fontana doesn't have to sell gas...they have plenty of other profit sources. So if they are going to mess with it they expect it to produce a decent profit.

The vehicle you take it in!
No 18 wheeler makes that trip - single axel 33,000 GVW trucks. High operating cost vs low load cap. Fuel weighs about 6 lb per gallon.
Small fuel loads plus high operating cost = higher fuel cost.
Plus there is the law of supply and demand. The road that we love to drive is the reason for high demand and low availablity.
I would be very suprized to see high test lower than $4.00/gallon. You pay to play!

The point of my question was, what is the difference in trasport for getting fuel to the Deal's Gap station versus the Fontana station. Based on your response, I think there's a little confusion on my original meaning - just trying to clarify.

my mistake - but the difference is the amount of fuel each retailer has hauled in - Deals Gap limits purchase by cars considerably- they make no profit and provide it as a service to their patrons - motorcylcles - Fontana has larger bulk tanks and sells the gas for profit - because they can - only supplier for cars short of going to Robbinsville. and tof is right - no sense in going to all the hassle to provide fuel in bulk amounts, unless you treat it as a profit center.
Food City's Gas-N-Go is the place to get gas locally on Fridays. Food City has Premium for the price of mid-grade on Fridays. Thats usually well below others. Food City's are only in TN, VA, and KY. Just so you know.
