The KeithD Memorial Line Crossing Thread
Kudos to you guys for stepping up and lots of us have been there before, so this post is just my general opinion and some random observations.
I was guilty of attempting to straighten out some of the more open and visible curves by getting a couple of wheels across the double yellow on my first trip up to the Dragon in 2004. I was soon set quite straight on my wrongdoing by some of the veterans, and have since come to realize, via a few very close calls with extreme (idiot) lane crossers, just how dangerous and stupid it is regardless of what your perceptions of the visibility and 'control' you think you have. There are all kinds of rationalizations you can come up with about how what YOU were doing in that particular instance was 'safe' but drive up there enough and see enough accidents, like Killboy has, and you'll come to understand that lane crossing on the Dragon can NEVER be 'safe' for anybody.
I now drive the Dragon as though I am driving the line painting truck for the right shoulder white line. I actually try to keep my right side wheels on or over the right-side white, depending on how slippery it is, I seriously don't think I've touched a yellow stripe up there in the past two years. I daresay I have just as much fun, and run just about as fast as anyone in an S2K can on street rubber. The road presents its own challenges, dodging people who can't keep their rides on the correct side of the road is should not be one of those challenges. For anybody. Ever.
Sorry I couldn't make it this year, was on my honeymoon, hopefully schedule will work out for DBR.
Cheers,
Mike

This thread has been great. So far it has made three people realize it's not cool to cross the lines, and we can be sure they will never do it again.
If we keep it real, and not threaten those who have line crossed, more people will step up and do the right thing.

We need to clarify that "asshats" are the ones that see no problem in crossing the double yellows.

Yes, sorry for not being more specific.

<willing to forgive those drivers that make mistakes-but only those that acknowledge that.
< still a slooooooooooooooooooow driver on the Dragon.

with Bill!I'm plan to drive the dragon by myself in 2 weeks* and appreciate the 'yellow line' briefing.....otherwise might have made the same dangerous mistake
*Driving further south after the
weekend gathering at Wintergreen Resort in SoVa.

How do you guys post the images since they're copyright?

Just be careful when showing off for the camera...we really don't want to shoot wrecks.
I don't mind folks posting the proofs. I'd turn off the right-click disable if I could, but it's built-in to the store. You have to do a print-screen and paste it into your favorite image editor.
