Yeah, you are right, Primo. I forgot that Mulder posted that line about the registration being dropped in a thread here at S2KI. I didn't see anything about that on the WTD web site. Although he did not post that until soon before registration closed, I assume he was trying to get people off their ass to get their money in. I can see how this could be understood to mean that "if I don't send any money they will cancel my event registration". That's pretty much what he stated. How else could one take it?

Anyway, certainly anyone who showed up should pay up. Anyone who spoke to and made arrangements with the organizing staff to pay when they got there should pay up. Others can make up their own minds but I would hope that they pay up. I'd hate to see the event take a loss and have it covered by someone personally. I'll donate if it comes to that to help make up the difference.

I guess you are right that I and others let emotion figure in to this. I have thoroughly enjoyed all 5 or 6 events I have attended and am very impressed with the dedication and hard work of the event staff.

I'm really not interested in the pro=con vitrol here. It's real simple for me...

If the DBR/WTD folks came out short for whatever reason I'm willing to contribute to make them whole.

I really would like them to continue to organize these events for a long time to come! And I will pay my fair share to make sure they know that.

PrimoGen, I think your argument is like any other argument that is going dead or sour. You "may" have your point on the current idea, but your current idea is slowly steering away for a original and very simple idea. You're making it too complicated with "liability", "disclaimer" and what not. We are not arguing at a "Supreme Court" level. We're not running a multi-million dollar business. You missed the simple idea here. "You register, you pay!" Nothing else matters. You talk about the method of collecting the money, and how to stay on their good side in order to get the money.
If they really don't pay, fine. I'm sure we'll see S2KI as a whole, show their true color and offer to donated money to offset the cost (which they already had).

This is a "NON-PROFIT" social event where people like airgate donate their time. You're example of weddings and what not is invalid. Take airplane ticket. You pay for the ticket. You didn't show. Do you get a refund? The answer is "NO". Why? Because you took up the reservation spot that could of been for someone else. Another example. You are a restaurant manager. A customer reserve table for 50 people on your peek hours. Only 10 showed up. The rest of the 40 seats that could of went to someone else(that will make money on) was left empty. How do you feel?

The only thing that I agreed with you is the planning part. If people don't pay before the event, they will be SH1t OUT OF LUCK. I'm sure the event organizers learned that the hard way, and we'll just see when they make it that strict next year, we'll see people (like the people on the list) start whining and crying about how rough it is.

All airline tickets have a terms of agreement either on the paperwork or on the website before you secure the ticket and the simple point you miss is that you actually paid them for the ticket. By doing so you agreed to their terms of agreement. You are therefore not entitled to refund (if that is there policy - most will work with you to apply that money to another flight) and they now have the ability to apply that money to whatever costs they incrued by producing the flight.

Just because this operation is not a million dollar business does not mean it is not governed by the same laws and logic associated with business in general.

A restraunt manager has the right (and responsibility) to protect themselves if they accept a reservation for 50. In your example, your manager should have negotiated a set menu, a set price per head and collected money up front on a date before the event. Just like every other catering location/event/planned dinner.

That way he would produce only the amount of food needed and only served those people who properly RSVP'd. Anyone showing up unannounced, with the party, would either have to pay the negotiated price for the set menu offering or pay full price for regular menu items. No restraunt manager (myself included) would ever accept and unsecured reservation for 50 people. If a tour bus shows up, with 50 people wanting to eat, something would be worked out. But in that case there actually are 50 people and we would just have to buckle down and git er dun!

"You register, you pay!"
If your registration stated in plain english that you were responsible to pay at the time of registering or were responsible to pay by some date, regardless of attendance....sure I would agree with you.

Otherwise, the planner is SOL not the registrant. Whats complicated about that???

I agree, lets all donate and help offset the cost (somebody PM me the paypal e-mail).

Let it die. This is way too drawn out and I think things will be different for future events. What more do you want?

Or my car. Not ALL Silverstone cars with an INGS car are the same car.
