PrimoGen explained it very well, those are my thought exactly. The bottom line is there was no clear statement of liability. Like I stated before I will pay because I feel bad that money has to come out of raul's own pocket. But why is it that he is solely responsible for the fees? I doubt that he is the sole proprietor of this event or s2ki. I don't know or have any interest on how s2ki runs it's business but it's ridiculous and unfair how a community's financial burden is left to an one individual's personal monies. There is only $100 in the club's account? That is absolute bs. I support s2ki and don't want to sound critical but from what I've seen so far it's been made clear some of you guys running the site/events need some help.

this is sad.

I didnt send in my check in time (I dont send checks to anyone) but Raul trusted me to pay for my registration when I got there. It really worked out for me.

Bet thats never gona be offered agian, thanks to some people who cant pay.

If you have to ask for money theres a problem. If you have to ask ONCE for money, theres a problem.

and this isnt a business. its a group of friends having fun.
sorry to burst your bubble but the fact is there is a business aspect to this site. have you tried running this site? there is money involved.

but this site and this event are seperate... when he says the clubs account he isnt refering to S2ki.com he means some seperate club that orginizes these events.

This site is a business, yes. I pay to play.

but going to some event with a bunch of friends isnt. Im just pissed cause ill have to pay in advance next time because of people who cant honor their word, and look for excuses later.

Some people seem to have a some mistaken idea that this event is put on by S2KI. That is far far from the fact of the matter.

Was S2KI a sponsor? I think they were but what that means is that they kicked in some money or schwag to be given away to either help defray your costs or to have something to give away. Other sponsors of the event are the same whether it is S2KI, S2KCA, Hardtopguy, Modifry, Carolina Shine, and many others (sorry others, just working off the top of my head here).

WTD and DBR are events organized and executed by a dedicated group of folks in the area for no profit and it is in no way a business venture. Sponsors sign on to help because they get a benefit of exposure and potential business from the event.

The event organizers make no profit from this and it is not a business venture. Hell I don't even know if the organizers get in free, get reduced hotel rates, or anything else. If they do, great, as they deserve it and far more for all the effort they put in to these events.

They do it for one reason and one reason only. They love their S2Ks and they love us (well, most of us anyway). This event is truly a labor of love and if you think anything different, you are just flat out wrong.

[QUOTE=dead-bird,May 30 2007, 06:06 PM] I always thought of Dragon events as small bunch of very fine folks who wanted to have a few hundred other fine folks over for a good time, to share something special and unique. Everyone should be lucky enough to belong to a group of friends like this.

My checkbook is open if that

The conversation that would sway me would have to involve a burning bush at some point.
Yes...and Rob, did you not receive a packet via USMail with your event packet, including your t-shirt, itinerary/guide, lanyard, magnet, etc?? Bear in mind that we, as a club, still paid for your "head" to eat at the event as we have to submit a number of folks to the hotel/resort a few weeks in advance.

So...while you may not feel you got your total "value" because you did not attend, money was still spent.

To date...all of this "discussion" and only 2 people have committed to pay up and I have yet to receive a check in the mail.

WTD and DBR are not businesses. They are events. We (the event team) manage the events to be profitable and then carry that profit onto our next event...but we still manage everything to a very close number...

As soon as money exchanges hands for goods or services it becomes a business transaction - sorry...whether non-profit, between friends, whatever...it simply becomes a different beast all together.

The greatness of the event is not in question, the friendship and niceness and coolness of what goes on is not in question...

The issue at hand is the responsibility of those involved. The registrants simply have NO responsibility to pay.

What all of you defending Airgate simply are not realizing is that what he is doing is ethically wrong!!! (Yes.... after hours of reading every single word of text on the sign up pages and all the threads in this section, I have changed my stance and support of this money-recouping venture)

All of you standing up and saying how great the event is and how much a labor of love it is are ABSOLUTELY correct. This event is all of those things and much, much more. BUT!!!!!!!!! What he chose to do when those people took no action, beyond filling out the registration, is WWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNG! The way he did it is even more devastating.

I am sorry for typing so sophomoric. But this thread is getting too cliquey and circle-jerkish too be of much more use to anyone. If feels like a god-dammed high school lunchroom in here!!!

To all of you on "THE LIST": pay or don

I removed the words "ASS" and "SCUM." I was probably a bit more heavy handed then necessary...but damn...the $680 is more than I pay for my wife's Civic and my ELEMENT every month...

I also updated the folks who are sending in checks. Once the checks are received, "your" name will be removed from the list.
