Ok so I'm really curious as to the overall opinion of the people on this! I for one drive very safely but I do speed when at the dragon. Hell that's the whole purpose for those that go there. Should I be very concerned that I might get caught doing 50, 60, even 70 mph on certain stretches of the road? This could really change my mind about spending my $$$ at this rural out of the way place. If it weren't for the people who want to speed a little and take curves in a challenging (I didn't say stupid) manner then I really don't think it would be as built up of a place as it is. Are they really considering losing all this revenue when all the people stop coming?

That's what it sounds like to me.

The boys in blue have been very understanding to date IMO and I think this will continue to be the case. New management's just making noise. Most of the guys that patrol that area know why we're there and as long as you're sensible with a "spirited" driving style they'll continue to be reasonable concerning the letter and spirit. I have no problem with them taking out the lunatic fringe that periodically shows up - they ought to focus heavily on those crossing the centerline IMO.
I worry more about the skyrocketing popularity of the place. Eventually, I fear increasing traffic will take care of all speeding problems.

Here is the latest from TOD

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BULLETIN: We have received numerous emails concerning the recent posting on the Internet by a supposed Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper warning of dire consequences on the Dragon this coming year for speeders. We do not post rumors on this site so we contacted Captain Ray Fletcher of the Knoxville Division Tennessee Highway Patrol. He confirmed as we had believed that some of the details in the post are completely false, such as the immediate arrest and impoundment of vehicles for speeding over 50 mph on the Dragon.

Captain Fletcher was not able to comment on whether or not the post was made by a Trooper, but some of the language, unusual statements and obvious errors as stated above make us believe the post was by someone other than who supposedly signed their name and position to it. Obviously a real Trooper would not jeopardize his job by signing such a post.

Captain Fletcher stated that the laws will be enforced on the Dragon as they are on all Tennessee roadways. Tail of the Dragon advises riders to obey the laws and they will have no trouble with the Tennessee Highway Patrol or Blount County Sheriff Deputies.

We will post relevant news as it occurs in the coming year. Watch for continuous updates.

On the dragon, in a stock S2000, there aren't a lot of places where you'll see 70 MPH - I can think of 2, 3 if you're aggressive. 50 MPH on the other hand, is pretty much every straight.

The flip side is that the road is not conducive to radar traps.

They have moving radar guns, and radar detectors don't give a whole lot of warning around those curves

I'm still going, and will have my fun too
