The main event channel will be 4.0, as usual.

Lee, Ohio uses 4.2, I suggest the NC folk use either 3.x or 5.x amongst ourselves.

There are a few of us going, hope everyone has radios - If not, I bet we'll have a message board again.

As always, the event channel will be 4.0.

The Carolina folks just tend to stay on that channel given the short range of UHF radios. We'll hear Ohio, but you won't hear us while you have quieting code two selected.

Just so I get the right two-way...will I need GMRS or are we talking about an FRS channel? Also, any chance I need CTCSS or will everything in our group be on 4.0 (which, I assume, means we won't be using a sub-channel that would require CTCSS). Forgive my nubee-ness on this topic.

Channel 4 is available on both FRS and GMRS radios so you can take your pick.

We don't use a CTCSS (also known as sub-channels, privacy codes, quieting codes) for the event frequency.

This way, pretty much any radio will work for you. Having a radio adds a lot of fun to the drives as drivers offer, um, suggestions to each other. It's also a great safety tool on group drives where you get early warning of bikers, dogs, bears and roadhogs in your lane.

If you get some type of headset it will make it easier to monitor the radio and easier to transmit.

See you at the event!

Thanks for the knowledge, Ron. I definitely planned on getting something with a headset option. I think some of the driving up there will keep my hands pretty busy what with steering and shifting and everything. (Pretty flat and straight down here on the Coast.) cu @ the gap

Just ordered my bud for the Cobra LI 6000 I use. Now I will actually be able to hear when you all talk, rather than frantically reaching for it and slamming it into my ear hoping to at least catch the end of what you guys said. These things are pretty useless in a convertable without the ear bud, as I found out @ WTD.
