Would this be a fun drive?
this is a gnarly little road that i accidentally took one time from fontana down to tapoco. its basically like a lane and a half, if you meet an oncoming car you are fubarred. its all downhill from fontana to tapoco and if you're lower than stock height you're gonna have to be real careful http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=We...via=1&t=h&z=14
This is a fun, short loop run!
Tapoco to Fontana / Meadowbranch Run
We did it a couple years back. The route was awesome but the road had a lot of small loose gravel on it. We're going up in a couple weeks, and I'll check it out to see how the road looks now.
You can also parallel Hwy 129 to Robbinsville via Old Field Gap & Yellow Branch Rd; will check those out as well!

Ron and I are going up this weekend, so we'll drive both of them and report back. If we have time, we'll also do the "Happy Valley / Hilltops & Hollers" route as well, JUST to make sure it's all open and that there are no U-turns involved at DBRXI.
We plan for that to be a group drive on Saturday.
