My first WTD ...... I stayed in Room 205 in the lodge. Had a clogged sink upon check in Friday afternoon. Stopped at the front desk on my way out to get my baggs and it was "cleared" and the sink cleaned upon my retunr with baggs in tow..... I found the female staff to be accommodating.....
Internet to the room would have been nice, but hey, I was on vacation......
TV, phone and heat worked...... $75 was a fair rate. I ate with Batguano in the lodge's restaurant Friday night. Chicken was good..... Service excellent. Sat AM at the grill for pancakes, ham and juice - another
Saturday lunch
Saturday dinner - I arrived at 7:30 and dinner was being served. I got a fair portion and it was good...
Sunday AM, I decided on instant oatmeal and a cereal bar in my room.....
the WTD staff was exceptional ... especially that "energenic lady" - Sheila ......
Maybe 2 lines for check in A-K ; L-Z or something similar.....
Needed to update the events board, but all you had to do was ask and the answer was given......

I was in Room 208 in the Lodge. Given Sheila's advice about getting a renovated room, I asked when I made my reservation. The reply was that "all the Lodge rooms had now been renovated. My room was fine -- clean, comfortable, very restful king bed and a great view over the Cabanas of the mountains. We stayed in a Cabana room last summer and it is not any nicer -- a bit larger and with direct access to the pool. I left the cellphone in the trunk and the laptop at home -- hey, I really like the getaway and the ability to hide from the world fro a weekend. For $75/night, I was pleased.
to Fontana.
I did not eat at the restaurant. However, there were at least a half dozen people lined up for breakfast at the restaurant on Saturday morning at 7 AM, only to be greeted at 7:30 by a waitress apologetically announcing. "I'm working alone this morning."
Friday registration was a bit slow, but then Radred bought me a beer, so I was happy. Anyway, who is in a rush, and it was a good time to chat and meet people. The snacks were a bit limited -- why not add some snack mix or pretzels? The ham sandwich box lunch was just right. Dinner was a wierd combination. Quantity seemed OK when I went through the line, but quality was more on a par with my company cafeteria. I had the impression I was eating warmed up leftovers.
Overall organization was well done -- a sincere thank you to the organinzing committee. I liked the Saturday afternoon drives, but it was not clear just what was avaialble.
What I like about the S2000 community is that it is such an ecclectic bunch -- I think Fontana kind of reflects that same personality.

I wasn't there for the Friday & Saturday events (I was only able to have breakfast Friday morning with Poindexter, his plus 1, Chad, Jeremy and 2 Bills.
Food was decent-problem was, and it seems to be a continuing issue, the service was slow.
When a group pretty much takes over the entire resort for a 3 day weekend, I think Fontana needs to staff itself accordingly. More servers, more bartenders, more front desk help, more resort staff in general.
I do like that cellphones don't work in the area

I think the event staff did a fantastic job. I liked the message board.
I would have liked to have been able to check-in/register a little earlier. As it turned out, I never did get a chance to look inside the bag and see what was in there. I got it, but it was late and I was chatting with people. Then I started drinking, and never got a chance to look back at it.
I cannot comment on the lunch or the banquet as I missed them. However, I DID enjoy the raffle.
I stayed in the lodge on Wednesday and Thursday and the room was clean, comfortable and very nice by my standards. On Friday and Saturday I was in a cabin. At first the water was brown, but it ran through quickly and was fine the rest of the weekend. No bugs, plenty of hot water, plenty of towels, and pots to spare. It exceeded my expectations. I'm sorry to hear that others had trouble.
I wasn't worried about the power failure, as it turned out I was still drinking when the power came back on, but I felt comfortable that I could have made it to bed without the lights.
Dinner Friday night, they ran out of 2-3 of the 6 or 7 entrees they offer in the restraunt. They also ran out of one of the deserts. Didn't they LOOK at the reservation list before ordering their food for the weekend, and making their staff schedules?
That seemed odd.

I know some people like the "remote-ness" of Fontana and the proximity to the dragon, but I really liked it the first two years I attended (WTD '04 and '05). The hotel in '05 was ideal - if only the bar would've stayed open a bit later. Nice, clean rooms, big room for the Saturday night dinner, the food (as I remember it) was pretty yummi, closeness to a variety of restaurants for lunch & dinner, cell service, big parking lot for us to use & hang out, etc. Plus, it wasn't really THAT far to get to the dragon and the drive to/from was enjoyable.
My vote would be to move the location of the event back to the Alcoa area.

My first dragon event was WTD 2005, and I have yet experienced the same event since it has moved to Fontana. So what the bar was not a good experience at the Hilton, the parking lot and room hopping was much better. I also think moving back to Alcoa would be a positive move. Especially because Fontana can't seem to plan appropriately for a large group of hungry S2000 owners.
WTD Staff!!!! You guys are doing great. Keep it up. Who cares about the lines, its a great chance to strike up conversations. Thanks for your work.
