I think most of the expectations were based on the previous two stays at Fontana. Last year, I think the biggest shortcoming was that we had to buy (wet) firewood. Both of the cabins I had were clean, fully stocked, devoid of insects, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It seems that a lot of people had similar experiences last year, but this year was a big dropoff.

Good luck selling your wheelz.
I gotcha - sorry, I misread a few of those posts. And even though I wasn't clear, I wasn't speaking to everybody.

Hopefully she will sell, but it isn't like I'll be too heartbroken if she doesn't

My expectations of lodging directly relates to the cost of the lodging. I expected rustic when I stayed in a $69 a night camp cabin, but not in a Magnolia at $239.

My cabin was great and over all experience was great. the food sucked and i was dissapointed. I got yhere 20 minytes after dinner started and they were out of allmost everything. All they had was Salmon and i cant eat fish. Lunch had about a 1/10th of a pound of lunch meat on the wrap. Hopefully this will be fixed . Other then that i had a great time.

Here's my breakdown.

1. Rationing of ice cream
2. Bad front desk employee's
3. Brown toilet water
4. 90 Degree heat in one room - 40 in the the other
5. Dirty - No towels or TP
6. All the onsite stores closing at 5pm

We payed a premium price too for our cabin. It wasn't a bargain and I'd expect more for my money.

Trick me into thinking I got a good deal.

I have been to more rustic places and it's understandable to deal with nature a bit...even with bugs etc. However, It just felt dirty to me and not taken care of. There were borded up and damaged cabins.

Thumbs Down on Fontana Village but Thumbs Up on the S2k activites and staff!

Take a lesson from what I did at the dessert station....

Grab the spoon & start serving yourself. That way, you get exactly how much you want. (Yes, I really did do that. I bet it doesn't surprise Lovetodrive, right?!)

I will speak for probably about 30 people that were "with me" or my friends from around the country.....

The only gripe ALL of us had, had absolutely nothing to do with the S2ki crew. The organizers did an awesome job, and I will come back no matter what. However, the problem was with Fontana. The only reason NONE of use raised hell was simple...the dragon is in the middle of nowhere, and there arent a lot of choices near there. So we bit our tounges, and didnt want the s2k crew to get blackballed. But since the organizers are reading this, hopefully, they can present this to the Fontana crew in a nice way, and get the problems fixed.

1)Food. The food situation is laughable. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, as well as Jim (PAs2kNUT) we were amazed that they were out of certain items on the menu. YOU ARE EXPECTING OVER 250 GUESTS, AND YOU KNOW ABOUT IT A GOOD 5 MONTHS AHEAD! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU NOT PREPARED!? Not like we all rolled up and surprised them.....they KNEW we were coming!

2)The power situation....surely, that was not the first time something like that happened. How about investing in some generators? How about you have a phone in every cabin? How about you provide your guests with lights, candles, solar flares, whatever when the power goes out? Am I supposed to sit like a jackass in the dark? Myself and William like idiots kept unlocking/locking our cars just so we can find the cabins from the light given off the headlights. Not only that, when I checked out, I didnt even get an "Im terribly sorry." Under normal circumstances, I would tell them to F... off and dispute the charges, but again, we dont have a choice in hotels really, so i dont want to get s2ki blackballed.

3)The general store....
During the S2ki wake the dragon event, fontana basically becomes a small city, with LOTS of people. Closing a store at 5, when you have the s2ki itinerary, and you KNOW that everyone is gone at that time, is just plain stupid. Keep it open until 9pm, so people can stock up on sodas, whatever. Its 3:30 am now, so I cant think of anything else, but Im sure I will, and will add them here.

*rant over...for now*

Suggestions on food...if you are in a cabin, bring your own. Learned that the first time to Fontana. The trip to Hooters has 2 purposes...Hooters and Super Wal-Mart. Stock up and eat well. The cabins have complete kitchens. Our cabin hosted a spagetti dinner served by Chez Will'e on Friday. Fun and tasty. Breakfast was brought to us by Kelloggs. Or cruise down to Deal's Gap for some pancakes.

One suggestion for the "box lunch" is to have Deal's Gap host that from the BBQ pit. They have very decent lunches.

The electricity thing...unfortunate, but I can understand that a place like Fontana didn't make the huge capital expenditure of having it's own power station as a back up. However, definitely a contingency of lamps, lanturns or candles should have been part of their COB plan. Of course, I have to say...listening to some of the complaints shows we have a good population of "city slickers" who I'm not sure should be trusted with candles in a cabin.
