I'm canceling due to some work matters that came up, and Fontana Village would not refund my deposit for a cabin because I called 29 days prior to me staying and they have a "30 day refund policy" (the manager at that place is a real a**hole and I will never stay there again!!). If someone is interested in canceling their Thursday night and staying in a 2 bed cabin for the night shoot me a PM. They are charging me 110 (or close to this) and I will give it to someone for $50. Let me know if you are interested.
1. When you cancel they keep your deposit and you do NOT get the room for Thursday night! They can rent it out to someone else for Thursday night. This is how they get you!
2. I also tried to cancel. I was 5 days past the 30 day cancelation mark and they wouldn't let me cancel. A-holes. I'm sure without WTD events they would not sell out Fontana on that weekend like they have for the past several years! So I decided to just go. I'll have to pay for a 2 bedroom cabin myself but it's better to pay $240 for 2 nights down there than $120 deposit for nothing.

I considered pushing my reservation back a day to ride up w/ the north florida gorup.... they said i was past the time also.
wasn't real happy about it . but a deadline is a dealline.. they held spots for us and gave us a discount .... so ya win some .. ya lose some..

Also, I consulted a lawyer buddy of mine, and he said they cannot keep your deposit AND book the room for all the nights. If you ask, they have to keep however many nights free that your deposit covers or face legal consequences.

I spoke with the folks at Fontana and we've got 2 options... You can move your reservation to DragonBall Run (which will be in September) or you can move it to Wake the Dragon 2011 which will be on the 4th weekend of April 2011.

I'm looking forward to seeing some other roads, I've only ever done the Dragon & Cherohala, this year should be really good.
And yes, the people are really great

Yes there are indeed many other good twisted roads in the area for us to enjoy. I really enjoyed the organized trip to the ice cream parlor in Franklin, NC last year for one example. Most of the time when attending this event I find myself looking for side trips to avoid the traffic on the Dragon anyway. With the Dragon closed this may not be that easy for this WTD event.
