Default CAI Poll

AAWWWRight!

I'm saving money for a CAI, and I want to know which one to get. I know this subject has been beaten to death, but let's beat it some more.

I can get an offbrand CAI that is essentially like the AEM V2, same shape tube, etc, for $57. Then buy an AEM filter for it. As I'm not inclined to spend $255- $350 for a metal tube that attaches to the intake on my car.

but I'm no expert. And I don't want to F-up my new baby by putting a cheap intake on. So i'm at a loss.

Horsepower gains from what I can tell, are minimal. Throttle response and sound are my main goals. Some say not to put a CAI on a daily driver in Florida b/c of hydroloc. Many from south Florida say that it is fine as long as you don't drive through deep long puddles.

whaddya ya'll think?

I'm tryin' to keep this consolidated. Moderator, please close the thread without a poll.
thanks.

Since your car has to be driven when it rains I wouldn't recommend an AEM. THe filter is too close to the ground, and if you put the valve on to prevent hydrolock it negates the effect.

If it were me I'd buy the comptec.

I have the AEM CAI (V1) with the bypass valve and have not seen any difference with the valve or without (I have ran it both ways because I was curious). I have not had any problems with water either. Although I have not driven it through any kind of down poor. Mine also is a daily driver. Don't know if this helps you or not, but this is my 2 cents.

By the way it is very difficult to install and mantain like Troy said. He installed mine. Thanks again Troy.

Thanks for all your responses. This helps me make an educated decision.

I got a PM form a florida owner that votes for the offbrand, so if a kind lurker will vote for an offbrand that would be great. i like accurate graphs!

I run a 4IG intake w/ a K&N filter. I also have the bypass valve on the intake, to prevent against hydrolock. I haven't had a problem in over a year of use and I feel it's doing a great job. I do agree that is a pain in the butt to maintaine the filter, hence I'm looking for a different design in the near future.

MPT (sponsor) is suppose to be coming out w/ 2 new intake designs this summer, which I'm looking forward too. I want to try something different.

Here is what you do...try hygieneboy's ram air mod. It's cheap and easy...just like he is. Anyway, if you like it, keep it. If not go with something more expensive!

I run a PRM which is pricey but I bet you could find one used on the site. I have no issues with it. Love the look and LOVE LOVE LOVE the growl it creates. Completely different car with this on.

My instinct told me this, but thanks Hygieneboy. You are well known in these parts.

But do I have to decide, Now? If i do, I would think Short Ram.

But i need to know the options, is there a good off brand?

I've heard a bunch, but for me the throtle response gains are my primary interest. I'm not going to get an exhaust for quite some time, if at all.

Cost is a big consideration as well. i think that I am going to go with the RAM air simpy because there isn't much difference between CAI and Ram as far as HP, or throttle response. And I won't have to worry about hydroloc ever. An offbrand RAM air unit might be my best option at this point.
