Default clutch problems

Hey everyone. I'm having so much fun driving up here in the mountains of NC. Only problem, my clutch smells like it is burning when its in first gear. I have a feeling that's bad news. So how much is this gonna cost me?

You're not slipping the clutch a lot on starts in the mountains, are you Deb ? Do you notice the revs climbing on the tach without any change in your speed? If so ... uh oh!

It's been reported that clutch slipage produces that awful smell, but if you haven't done a lot of slipping the clutch may function normally again after some miles of gentle use.

If you have to replace the clutch, the transmission has to be pulled out and that costs some bucks. I don't know how much but my guess is 4-5 hours of labor plus the part.

It makes that smell no matter how I drive. Yes, sometimes I can drive my car gently! Thanks for the reply.

Deb,

Do you remember doing anything that would have caused the clutch to slip? That smell can linger sometimes for quite a while. If not go to the dealer, I would be big money they would fix it for you for free if its under warranty, since you don't look like a racer-type (hehehehe).

if you have warranty left, sounds like you need the 2nd clutch rattle TSB done

I glazed my clutch a few months ago, it slipped really bad once and the car wouldn't accelerate. It smelled terrible for a couple days, and now it smells pretty much every time I drive it. I took it to Ed Morse in WPB and they said it wasn't slipping for them and the smell would probably go away. I'll probably bring it back again and complain again.

Jared, don't go to Ed Morse. I argued with them that my tranny was going bad, they said there was nothing wrong with it and a week later I had a complete overhaul. I also argued with them that the elastics in my top were bad, and they were telling me that it was a mechanical problem. Morons couldn't figure out that the bar that wouldn't go down is not mechanical, now I have a rip in my top. I would do the drive and go down to Rick Case Honda and talk to Mario Muniz. I don't trust Ed Morse as far as I can throw a stick. If anything, go to Braman in Lake Worth, talk to Lorrie. They fixed my tranny and gave me a rental. Good luck!
