Oh man, I'm sick about having to turn one down. I'm hoping to fly out for a test drive before X'mas. I've set everything up but the flight. I'm afraid it'll just make me want one worse. Hell, I may even sell the race car to buy one.

You'd be selling the race car, for another race car. The Elise just has AC.

Yes, I could drive it on the street and it does have AC and those are both very good things. The bad thing is that it isn't Solo I legal without a cage and I wouldn't want to spend that much on a car and then chop it up. I'm not sure what I'm going to do but it is the car I've wanted since Lotus introduced them in Europe.

I didn't think any car was Solo 1 legal without a cage. Every track event I go to, I keep wanting to cage my car.

That's the problem, for Solo I you have to be set up as a true race car. There are some 5 point roll bars that are legal in some classes but you would have to cut the crap out of an Elise to make it work. I'm sure someone will come up with one but it may take some time. Still, I'd rather my track and street cars were different animals.

I think you need to jump on that Elise now. Chances of getting another any time soon seem pretty remote. Then we need to get an autocross site, schedule a test and tune, and you can let me try out your Elise. I really need to see if I fit in one, and that would be a great way to do it. Much better than in dealers show room, don't you think?

R? I thought Racemint was J.

I think you would fit fine since my wife does. There are very few people I would allow to drive it in a test & tune if I get it. R & J would get a chance.

Just to torment you a little more, here are some photos from a recent autocross . Also, there are 2 Elises that will be at the 18 December Chin Motorsports event at Sebring. Let me know what I can find out for you.

Notice that the Elise looks small, even when next to a Toyota MR-S!
