Default Failure to Launch

Yesterday afternoon, I got into my s to drive home, hit the start button and all it did was crank. Engine did not fire or even sound like it was trying to fire. After about three tries, the engine started and ran as smooth as could be.

We had a torrential downpour about 30 minutes before I tried starting it. Any way something could have gotten wet and was preventing ignition? I have driven the car for several hours with about 6 flawles starts since the incident. i just don't want to get stranded somewhere if it does it again.

Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Oh help me oh great turners of the wrench.

if you have the AEM V2 or other low mounted CAI the filter was probably saturated with water from the runoff from the hood eye holes.

I am running the K&N FIPK which is mounted high. I didn't get to check under the hood as I was just happy to be started and needed to get to an appointment.

I never had this problem during the torrential rains of summer so I am thinking it might be something else.

Keep thinking guys.

was the engine warm or cold when you tried to start?

have you played with anything under the hood recently?

how old is your fuel filter?

how much gas did you have in the tank, was the car parked on a slope?

try one of your spare keys, maybe the immobolizer didn't like you for a minute or two.

just throwing my thoughts out there.

Car has 28K on it.

Engine was run about 4 hours earlier for about 30 minutes

Have played with nothing under the hood recently.

Fuel filter age unknown.

Tank 3/4 full, car on level ground.

Did't have a spare key with me. Come to think about it, when it wouldn't start after two tries, I took the key out and reinserted. Hmmmm

The S2000 doesn't have a replaceable fuel filter, it only has a fuel sock by the fuel pump.

thanks, i didn't know that. mine's an '06 so i haven't bothered looking for a fuel filter. i normally would change out my previous cars (VW) fuel fiter every 20k. it was a simple plug and play.

Check your battery as a first culprit if it continues. The heat and humidity of Florida sucks them dry very fast.

The engine cranked fine with no weakness. Although I have seen wierd things with a weak battery. My wife's Jeep would crank strong but wouldn't fire.....problem....bad battery ( Also the AM radio quit working, replaced battery and radio worked fine)
