wow thats a lot of beaches guys thanks. the first visitor i have coming likes to party so that is why i need the bar. the second set of visitors are my sister and mother so i need something where we can just lay out on the beach. everyone is coming for one weekend so i wanted to stay somewhat close to home. if i remember correctly shepherds isn't directly on the beach right?

 

As I reecall, Ft Desoto park won the award for a few years in a row for having the nicest beach. No bars there but nice place to picnic and hang out.

Caladesi Island State Park has a world class beach that is reachable only by ferry boat from Dunedin. Might make for an interesting day trip for mother and sister.

Shepards is not directly on the beach, its more of were you go when your done at the beach!

also, noone has mentioned Siesta Key. I've only been there once but had a blast. lots of bars near the beach and really pretty sand.
