Default Hurricane Survival

Hey everybody.

I've had my 06 s2k for about 3 months now and have been dreading the Hurricane season. I live in Orlando, ground zero for 4 Hurricanes recently. I live in a condo and do not have a garage.

Does anyone have any advice or experiences from the past two years that I should know about? Did the wind rip the top? How about flying debris? How easy is it to store the car at a parking garage downtown during the worst?

I'm sure this thread would help a lot of people in the South. Thanks!

The top should be good for well over 100mph. Only thing you should be wary of is the rain seeping between the windows and the rubber sealant.

Debris is of course always a factor. There's really not much you can do in that scenario. If you really worry, you should invest in a QUALITY outdoor car cover. It should be the kind that locks on the bottom. This will help prevent it from blowing off.

I personally would not leave my car downtown in a parking garage for any extended period of time. You would be better off making good friends with someone with an extra space in their garage.

Find a garage. Or drive it out of harms way.

Not sure how well a car cover would do in hurricane force winds. Might actually do more harm than good...learned from experience many years ago. Thought I would be smart and put a car cover on one of my previous rides while trailering from Texas to Florida. The cover stayed on just fine...but under high winds (70-80mph) for several hours the cover flapped and sanded the paint for me even though it was one of the high tech materials that shouldn't scratch paint.

I would not leave it outside during a hurricane. Talk to LHP Sailor about all the damage his S sustained through one (or more) of the storms last year.

Mine survived Charile Frances Ivan and Jean.

I was just out of the country at that time. Not like I am looking for chances.

The problem is, I don't care what you do to protect your car, yourself, or anything for that matter. If something is going to happen, it will.
You at least try to make sure nothing happens. And hope you were right.

When we had our near misses and outer skirtings two years ago, i did one of two things:

I either parked down the street from our house where there were no trees and or debris

or

went downtown and found a short/long term parking garage and went about 3 stories up and paked on the inside rows of the level.
