looking for a pumpkin
I'm the one in need! Willie Gee is right... I rarely post on S2KI, just due to lack-o'-time.
As for what finally caused the diff to go, Willie Gee's got that right as well. At the beginning of this season, I guesstimated that I've probably done 3000 clutch dumps with this car, with very few issues (1 clutch, 1 set of inner CVs), so I think I was due.
I noticed there was a whining - almost like straight cut gears - that was "new" to my car, about 5 days before Nationals. I took it to my mechanic for general prep for the Nationals, and told him to take a special look at the diff. He did, and found an unusually high amount of particles in the diff oil, and he didn't think it felt right for a Torsen when he turned the wheels.
We tried without success to get a diff in prior to our leaving for Nats, so I told him just to put the best diff oil he had (Amsoil) in and we'd hope for the best.
Fortunately, the course configurations at Nats did not benefit a launch start, having immediate 90 degree turns following the start. And the diff lasted through Nationals without any discernible performance degradation. At least it worked well enough to net me a trophy at my first Nats
, with a fairly lightly prepped car (i.e., Konis, Gendron solid FSB, Carbotech Pads, Hoosier A6s, alignment).
So then the State Championships snuck up on me, and I hadn't done anything to the car. So we get there, and the start is the exact opposite of Nats: 200' straight after the start leading to a 5 cone 80' slalom. We had 4 counting runs, and for my first 3, I launched like I was leaving a red light with a Cop watching. And with one run left, I found myself in 3rd, .200 out of 2nd, and .7 tenths out of 1st.
Knowing the diff was toast anyway, believing I could easily make .2 and might make .7 with a good launch, and having the trailer just in case, I took it to 6500, dropped the clutch, hurd a loud bang from behind, and the car didn't move an inch...
Diff gone, and that's it.

damn terry that really sucks, I would get together with puddydad and jcarlton to get a cryo'd diff, it will be the last time you ever have to worry about it.
Have you takin it out of the car yet to see what accually failed?
