Default magnetic plugs

Do you guys prefer the longer drain bolt or shorter one?

Is this one of those trick questions? I've always thought it was how you use it not length. Experts please weigh in.

Nothing wrong with either... i'd personally go for the short one though.... less to go wrong if ANYTHING is going to go wrong with a drain bolt... lol!


One thing to think about though, is that if you have enough metal shavings in your engine to overwhelm the short one like in your first link (which is the one i have btw), then you have WAY bigger issues than whether or not you should have gone for the longer magnet.

Another thing to consider is if you are getting bearing wear, don't worry about it... the bearing material won't stick to the magnet anyhow, unless you get to the steel backing, which... again... won't matter how long or short your magnet is. Any material that is going to be collected by the magnet if you are having bearing wear will likely be actual crank material.

And don't worry about buying one for the trans... it has a very healthy sized magnet in it already courtesy of Honda

But a magnetic oil plug only if you want to over worry yourself everytime you change the oil LOL
