Default Moving to Cape Coral, FL

Hey guys I live in Alexandria, ky ( Right by cincinnati, ohio ). I've had my 2000 silverstone s2000 for about a year now. I am moving to florida come this november and I had some questions.

What do you guys think of the cape coral, fl area?

I'm looking for something fairly coastal and without outrageous house payments.

Give me some feedback on some good places to look.

There's a lot of foreclosures on the market in Cape Coral. It was speculated heavily. The w side of cape coral has some nice properties. There are lots of canals leading to the river. Some parts of cape coral are nasty with a high crime rate. So check it out well.

I don't know what housing range you're in or where you're working but S ft myers is reasonable as is bonita springs.

Cape Coral is full of grumpy old people from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. There isn't really anything to do there unless you're a grumpy old man that wants to look for things to complain about. Now if you are a grumpy old man, you're gonna LOVE this place!

Anytime you want to do something you'll have to drive, over the stupid toll bridge, to Fort Myers. I hated living in Cape Coral but I moved 3 miles down the road into Fort Myers and I love it, it's a totally different environment.

I don't know about the crime rates that fltsfshr mentioned. I'd be willing to bet that you could drug me, throw me out in a ditch anywhere in Cape with $10,000 cash sticking out of my pocket and the chances of me waking up w/ some old guy yelling at me for laying on the grass would be much higher than the chances of getting mugged.

The high crime rate certainly wouldn't be indicative of violent gangs or anything like that, probably more a result of wanna-be thuggish 17 year olds peeing on the grumpy old mans front door after he yelled at them to "turn down that stupid music!"

On the postitive side, you'll love the absolutely perfect "top down" weather from November to March.

Agreed. Lehigh is where you want to be if you are looking to save a ton of $ on real estate though. There are so many forclosed homes out here that the banks are just giving them away so they don't have to sit on em any longer. I have 4 in my neighborhood alone.
