What BOV are you running? It could be getting stuck open releasing a lot of your boost into the atmosphere. Also if your belt is slipping like Todd said you would be getting less boost and with either situation your esm could be causing you to run rich. Also like djDorifto was saying, check all your connections and clamps and such to make sure nothing vibrated itself loose since the install. Good Luck, keep us posted.

Funny you say this, Matt. I actually have a Comptech ESM in my kit thanks to JCarlton

Between Rick and Todd at 10:30 at night, I think they'll figure out what it is. The worst part is that sometimes it runs perfectly and I can't make it do anything bad. Then other times it just misbehaves.

Thanks Todd for the 24-hour service
An ESM is an ESM. It modifies the signal to keep the ECU from seeing boost. It doesn't care what supercharger is on it. That ESM was working fine when it was taken off the car a year ago. Assuming that is wasn't damaged and was hooked up corectly,(which I'm sure it was), there shouldn't be any problem with it. I would hate to be label as the cause of this since I drove a hour each way to deliver it and didn't charge a dime.

If you can find Zacksdad's old car you can get the Vortech one back. Since it was fine when it left the shop I would believe more that it is a problem caused by boosting. Like other things already mentioned, the map sensor, loose belt, or a bad BOV or in this case bypass valve.

I had bad MAPs and a belt slip both. The MAP made it do what yours is doing and then it would barely run. The belt made it not hit high boost but it also squeeled when it slipped.

Good luck, I'm sure you will get it figured out.

Cheryl- one more thing to check...

My final problem that I just resolved... (Car runs PERFECT now...)

I'm not sure esactly how the Vortech works, but....

I was running into a problem where the car would run great at first, but after maybe 10 minutes-- the car would start to run very poorly, and extremely rich...

It turned out that the water pump for the aftercooler had worked it's way loose, and was now not flowing water through the aftercooler...

Due to this, the intake charge was getting VERY HOT. This was reducing my performance drastically...

Maybe you could check the aftercooler after driving for like 10 minutes to feel if it's hot to the touch... Mine is now cool to the touch, where before it was SCALDING hot.

Just another idea.

Jeff - I wasn't saying there's anything wrong with your ESM!! :-) I was just mentioning it to Matt since he's got the Comptech kit. Just some Orlando rivalry (since we're the only 2 FI kids in the group).

Clint - thanks for the tips. After talking to Tood I've sort of narrowed it down and I definitely suspect it's the BOV or the belt because of the lack of boost. Don't hear any belt noises and it feels good when I'm under the hood, but I haven't check the BOV yet...

This morning I drove about 25 miles and did a few runs.... after lettng the car warm up I redlined in 1st and 2nd and it only showed me about 1 psi. Then on another it showed about 3 psi in 2nd (0 in 1st at 9k rmps).

keep us posted Cheryl and I hope it isn't a big problem that would need hundreds of dollars to fix.

My money is on the BOV sticking (partially) open. That would reduce intake charge pressure significantly, allowing your mixture to turn highly rich... KAPOW! Backfire every time the gas builds up...

If it is the valve.

1.) You should be able to take off the Vortech bypass valve and blow it out and that may help it not stick.

2.) If I remember a godzilla BOV will bolt to the Vortech aftercooler and then you can take off the Bypass valve that resurculates the excess air and cap off the Bypass valve hose. Maybe someone has one you could try in your area.

The Vortech kit doesn't resurculate the excess boost pressure, it blows it off.....

After taking a few minutes with Cheryls car this evening it was the belt. We tightened the belt up. The boost gauge is reading a little off. With the car off it's sitting a line below O psi. So it's reading 6 PSI on WOT but it's actually making 7. We also added about 2 cups of coolant to the aftercooler, just to top it off. It was a little low, but not much. You still have to leave a little room for the coolant to expand when it gets hot.

BOV is working fine. And no fireballs or brick walls for us. I will be monitoring the car over the weekend to see if any other problems pop up.
