Have you tried bringing it to an Apple Store? You can bring your computer in and they will diagnose it for free at the "Genius Bar". When my iBook was acting up thats what I did...it was a low stress evolution, let the "Genius" do all the work.

There are two Apple Stores in Orlando...one at the Florida Mall and one at Mellenia.
at this point
the lightening storms might have something to do with it. but if you can't start up off an install Cd, the problem is much deeper that i had originally suspected.

Mac is whack!

LOL JK I would not even think of starting any kind of platform war in here.

Sorry to hear of the problems. Obviously you did not get the "SadMac" at the initial startup when this thing finally died, did you?

did several test today with Apple tech on the phone. no matter what they had me do, the mac could not find the hard drive. i took it to the apple store at millenia mall and the genius agreed that the HD is dead. i left it with them for a warranty repair.

should have it back in a day or 2.

good news: it's a cheap and easy fix. (a bad hard drive can happen to any platform, it's rare but it happens) & you've got your files backed up, so that's good.

Bad news is you wil go without your machine for awhile.

Sorry I couldn't help more, but usually when a mac won't start off an install disk, it's a hardware issue.
