Hey I posted the links
It's ok...
I just don't think you will win at all because I have been there and have had friends who tried to fight it. Like I was hoping you can do is be really nice to the judge and ask for a lesser fine if you swap your stock exhaust back on if you want to pay less. Otherwise just take it and pay for it.

I didn't feel like reading all the replys but in FL it is illegal to modify the exhaust on any motor vehcle

p.s. i'm a law enforcement officer, i know
Only true with proof that it breaks the applicable laws. I've had officers pull me over for "breaking the law" and being proven wrong in court before. Hell I got pulled over for making a left on red on two one way streets before. No offense, but you being a law enforcement officer doesn't really mean anything, I highly doubt that you remember each word of every Florida statute.

Anyways, I've driven our race car on the street before (yes it's tagged and insured), past police and have never had a problem. Either that officer just wanted to give a ticket or he was hoping to find something else IMO.

Let's all take a deep breath for one minute and think about the following...

Does it really take an expert to know that the Invidia V3 is louder than stock?
Stock exhausts (other than exotics) are generally pretty mild, can the same be said for the V3? Seriously.

Primo: You make it sound like the OP has a constitutional right to make his exhaust louder than all hell. In fact, the statute seemed quite clear to me. There is no requirement that Officer Joe use any specific instrumentation to measure the Db levels. It says that the "measurement procedures MAY include..." and says nothing about what procedures MUST be taken. So when the OP's exhaust sounded louder than hell, he was written a $75 ticket.

I don't want to start an E-brawl, just think that sometimes loud ass exhausts get a cheap ticket for being too loud. It's just a risk you take.

I'm with RoB on this one...if the officer has no proof through the use of a db meter I would fight it. Odds are in his favor the oficer will not even show up in court and the judge will throw the ticket out.

the statute states the exhaust cannot be louder then stock, if this was being enforced we would have heard about this issue long ago. there are so many annoying can mufflers around tampa police would have "ricers" pulled over throught the city.

is the Invidia louder than stock? If so, is it a LOT louder than stock (considering you had the 'silencers' out)? Would you need a DB meter to know it's louder?

If it is ... and the statute states that it's unlawful, regardless of what kind of device you use to realize it (human, DB meter, ect), then maybe we should all start to realize it. And comparing it to Harley's, Muscle-cars, or any other possibly unlawful noise issues (like my butt lol) will only categorize us as the same.

Also, posting about installing the silencers now and returning to court ... signals something other than your argument of "it's not loud".

But, good luck.

I was not getting overly heated or anything. I just wanted to make points.

The invidia, with the silencers out, runs about 115 -125 db WOT which is way out of range for legality. We had scotts db meter at one of the dyno days.

Under normal throttle I think it would still be above those very VERY conservative numbers they specify in the statute.

just let us know what happens.
