Unhappy Pulled over because of exhaust.........

Hey guys ... Just wanted to let you know that I was pulled over 2 nights ago in the Heather Lakes subdivision because of my exhaust. I wasn't speeding but the cop said he heard me several streets over. I have an HKS hyper exhaust without resonators. He didn't ticket me but said that the exhaust was illegal. When I asked him why he said 'Any exhaust system that makes the car LOUDER than it originally was is illegal.' He then said 'It can ONLY be used for SHOW.' I said how can you use an exhaust for just show. He said, 'I don't know but wanted you to know in case someone else pulls you over because of it'. He was nice and all but just wanted ALL to have a heads UP!!!!!

Personally I think that is and I've had it for 2 years now, but I wanted to let others know.

Talk later.............

I have an HKS dual Hi-power with the resonator removed and it seems way more quiet than say the Invidia and Amuze setups. Wow!!

I do try to hang low and keep out of the deep drone levels around the PO-PO though and I do keep the revs light at night in neighborhoods but thanks for the heads up.

I also think he was looking for some punks to F with. You can hear some stock exhaust a couple of streets over if the night was quiet and you were sitting in the dark looking for anything to do.

Plus after checking the internet a little I found that all of the HKS exhaust systems I looked at on HKS's website were rated 50 state legal. I would print this out and keep a copy of it in your car if you are pulled over. I would tend to believe HKS research over some cops ear and take it to court.

This is obviously out the window if you are running other mods and or you have removed the resonator like mine is setup and what you said yours was too. But the judge and the cop do not necessarily have to know that now do they.

One of the So Fla members, Russ, had the same thing happen to him in Homestead (Miami-Dade County). The FHP officer said that any exhaust that's louder than stock is illegal.

Personally, I think in his case, he cop saw the car (top up and windows tinted) and thought that he'd bust some punk's balls about it. The sight of a 40 year old, straight-edge man getting out of the car probably threw him for a loop!

Cool

That's crap. With all the Harleys out there, with straight pipes, and you get pulled over.

Primogen, You only have one resonator cut off. You still have the one closer to the cat. Quarter's has both of them cut off. Quarter's is definitely louder.

Quarters I can probably get your stock exhaust back if you want to swap it out.

Ha! Ha!

yep, your right.

i forgot about the smaller one

The HKS still said they are all 50 state legal why would they put that if they did not research it. Like jcarlton said it is bullshucky with all those obnoxious HD's out there.

anything louder than stock is illegal--"suck me" Ok then let me fire up my Mach 1 Mustang and see if that theory hold true. Oh and my Gallardo comes stock with Ti Exhaust so let me rev that one out a little and see what that "stock" exhaust sounds like or my Enzo for that matter

Some cops are just dicks

My $.02

Good thread I get to dust off my soapbox LOL

There is some sort of limit on how loud it can be.. it is in the FL Statutes. I dont know how the trooper/officer could measure that on the street.

Unfortuanately florida law is written as exactly as the cop said it was. Anything that doesnt sound OEM factory is illegal. and if you check with HKS, Tanabe, and Apexi etc...basically all the companies that say its 50 state legal.....if you fully read that paper it actually says to still check local and state laws. Thats the loop hole that, if a cop wants to be mean about it....they can do exactly that. Of course the majority dont care...considering it is just a fix it ticket.... But either way...its not even worth fighting for the price of the ticket. Just consider it bad luck and pay it. its the one law that is really dumb...but its 100% completely in the cops favor.

That sux

So all those straight pipe harleys are just asking for?? Some of those guys are extremely loud (like hurt your ears when they pass you loud)

Seriously the first thing most HD guys do is mod the pipes when they get them because factory HD's are so quite to them.

This really blows
