vvs told me the 2nd pic is the right way. The slots (when turning) should start close to the center and go out. HOpe that helps.
I thought that too. Thats the way i put my rotors on last week. The way I was taught was that when braking while moving forward, the brake dust will fly outward with the slots in that way in the second pic.
In the first pic, it seems the brake dust will be sent inward when braking from the direction of the slot.
when installing rotors drilled, slotted or both not every company makes theirs the same, what you are looking for is the direction of the internal vanes between the inner and outer plate. Centrifical forces act as a heat pump from the center out to expel (sling)gases and heat away from the hub. RXDI and myself have Jeff's cryoed rotors and they are installed correctly, If you look at corvettes and porsches, I believe the drilled holes on the outside going into the caliper start from top to bottom , but the vanes on the inside always should start from the bottom up, if that makes sense to ya. hope that helps.
4bang6 is correct you have directional and non-directional rotors. Most rotors you buy off the shelf can be used either way. When purchasing a big brake kit you need to watch the inner vanes, because usually their are directional.
How do you tell the difference after the install. In a short period of time you will begin to feel a pulsating feeling in the pedal when braking. You are now warping the rotors because they are not cooling properly. Get them resurfaced and put them on right.
