but you still have to use itunes to put stuff on the ipod correct?
if you want to be frustrated, try to use an ipod with third party patches and WMP.
itunes is simply an online jukebox that can transfer files to an ipod. it is free to use. it is free to import files from a cd onto itunes. it is free to transfer files from within your computer or from another computer. it is free to download itunes and many many PC users use it.
i don't use the itunes store, and you don't have to.
I have an iPod shuffle and a Dell DJ. I use iTunes to transfer things to my iPod and I use the Dell software to transfer to the DJ. I use iTunes to rip from CDs all the time.
I guess the real answer is, if you're going to get an iPod, use iTunes.
On a side note, I hate that anything you buy from iTunes, you can't use on any other player except an iPod since it's not an MP3. I know you can rip it to a CD and then import it back but it's a pain. I hate the iTunes store.
