Default iPOD connection question

Hi all,

My new 09 S has a Honda Ipod adapter fitted to the standard head unit - the one that thinks the Ipod is a CD changer.

I don't have an Ipod and know little about them, so I'm off to get one.

The manual says I need a 4th or 5th generation Ipod, Ipod mini or ipod nano.

Does anyone know if I can get one of these "Ipod Touch" things which will work with the adapter? (I quite fancy one so I can play that "flick the paper in the bin" game)

Do the latest Nano ones work? Will the adapter charge the ipod in the car?

Thanks in advance - won't go to Currys until I get the definitive line from someone here.

Cheers!

I have a 4th gen Nano and it charges in my 03 car with the X car link on the standard HU. It is a 16GB Nano, which gives me plenty of room for lots of music. Also the Nano is really small so you can slip it in the little cargo net when in use. If all you want an ipod for is to listen to music in the car, I personally wouldnt bother with games and stuff that you can have on the Touch, and get a Nano.

The touch is a superior machine with better audio quality and a massive range of applications. Well worth the money.

Will it work OK with the Honda adapter, do you know?

I do fancy one but SimonW has a point about getting a Nano thing just for music on the move.

Use the code TOUCH10 to get £10 off the Ipod touch at Currys website, valid till the 13th. That makes the 8gb version £139.

Apple mucked about with the power connections in the plugs in the latest gen of Ipods. This means that most accessories for the previous gens won't charge the new gen. I don't know how up to date the Honda adaptor is, best bet would be to borrow one and plug it in. If you ask nicely in the shop and explain your concerns, they may let you try a display unit in your car.

Decided against the Touch as the cable comes out in the compartment next to the handbrake and the Nano fits less obtrusively so got a 16gig black one from Comet. (£135)

Works a treat - charges, plays the Honda1, Honda2 etc playlists AND shows the Honda logo on the Nano screen. I'm well impressed with that!

Thanks all.
