Default On the Road North to Fall Crawl

Hello All

As many of you know, I will be on the road again. This time heading north to Sturbridge MA for the Fall Crawl Rallye and visiting with Allen and Lisa (my son and his wife).

Below is my general itinerary:

9-28-2010 - Going north no I-95 to I-26 and the Asheville area, where I will pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) and staying at the Pisgah Inn. Looking forward to driving the BRP since this will be my first time. Hopeing the change has started for the fall colors.

9-29-2010 - Early start on the BRP north into Virginia

9-30-2010 - Finishing the BRP and picking up I-64 and I-81 into PA

10-01-2010 - Continuing on the Auburn MA arriving sometime during the day. Then checking in with the Fall Crawl Group and dinner with them.

10-02-2010 - Fall Crawl Group Drive

10-03/06-2010 - Allen, Lisa, and myself will tour VT (Ben & Jerry's), NH (LL Bean), MA (lobster rolls on the coast), and return to Auburn.

10-07-2010 - Day of rest and prep for return.

10-08/10-2010 - Heading home basically the same way up, but will pick up I-77 through Charlotte to I-26, and I-95 home.

I will try and post up each night. Till the next post, Vic

Hi to Everyone

Day 1 - 09282010

I was not able to transmit the 28th, The Pisgah Inn did not have WiFi and my Air Card could not make a connection.

Well on the driving day - I left home about 0930a on Tuesday, Several things needed to be taken care of before I could leave the area. Then once on the road I ran into rain starting just north of Palm Coast and lasted all the way to Brunswick GA. Once out of rain drove I-95 to I-26 getting off at Inman SC. Picking up US-176 to Henderson SC, the road was a lot of fun with twists and turns and very litte traffic. Merging on to NC-64, again a great road to drive. Picked up US-276, with a good country road. This took me onto the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP), by the time I arrived at the Pisgah Inn on the BRP it was 7:30. Had dinner at the Inn Restaurant. Looking forward to driving the BRP tomorrow.

Day2_09292010 - Blue Ridge Parkway

Well I woke up to being fogged in. You literaly could not see more that 20 feet in front of you. I could not even see the car from the room window and the mountain view room I paid for was a totaly waist. I had a nice country breakfast at the Inn's restaurant. By 0930a the fog started lifting, but was still pretty thick. I started at mile marker 410 on the southern end of the BRP, it was hard to see, so had to drive with caution. Around noon time it got to a point to be able to drive and take pictures. Only to start raining with in a hour, so not the roads are slick from the rain. About 4:30, I departed the BRP. There was no way that I could make it to my sons in MA by Friday at the rate I was haveing to travel. it was a good choice, I took US-321 tp Boone NC, then on to US-421, to TN-91 in Mountain City TN, wich connects with I-81. Once on I-81 I stopped in Chilhowe VA where I called it a night a 7:00p.

According the workers the height of color is approximately 2-3 weeks away.

Day 3_09302010 - Traveling through VA, WV, MD, and NY

Sorry to say that today was even worse the yesterday. The rain started around Marion VA, and continued all the way to southern NY. I left Chilhowie VA just south of Marion on I-81. I was a little concerned on how the CR would take the heavy rain on the road, but it really held to the road through trip. I picked up I-84 in central PA and finally called it a night at Brewster NY. I will continue on in the moring to my son's in Auburn MA.

Till the next email, Vic

Day 4_10012010 - Arrival in Auburn MA

Well I slept in this morning, left the hotel about 1100a, it is only a coople of hours drive to my son's home. Stopped along the way to try and get photos of the fall leaves, but with the showers is was very hard and there really isn't much color. Met up with the S2000 Fall Crawl group at the hotel and got registerd for the run tomorrow. Later joined up with the Fall Crawl group at a greek restaurant called "Zorbas", food was good and large portions. Enjoyed the company seeing folks from when I was up last Thanksgiving and other meets, looking forward to the drive tomorrow. The weather is projected to be sunny and 64 degrees.
