Thumbs up Switching to Synthetic?

New guy here. I am going for my first oil change this weekend and was wondering if I should switch to Synthetic Oil. It's 2001 with 14k miles on it.

Is it a good idea? Are any of you running Synthetic? Any benifits?

TIA

I have been running syn for a few years now. Used Mobil for a while but have been using Lubrication Engineers (check "marketplace") for about a year and a half I guess. Love it.

Nope just ask them to switch. You might see what brand they are using before you go though. Sounds like Troy (HB above) has had a good experience. Some will let you bring your own case if you have something specific. I typically change my own but I have had the dealership do it using the Lub. Engineers I like.

I use Mobil 1 10w-30 with a PureOne Filter and I like the results from them.

<---Royal Purple Synth w/OEM filters

I switched over about 8 months ago. MY01 with about 52K miles at the time

Supposedly they claim a pony or two gain but I am too dumb to notice it

The bottles shure are purrty though! LOL

Awesome guys, thanks for the tips. Great read HB. Which Wallmart was that?

Gonna go for the Synthetic change this weekend to go with my AEM V2 install from 2NR-Todd.

You will love the V2. When it starts raining super hard just be wary of all puddles and the risk of hydrolock will be minimal. I have had mine through all of this summers downpours and it never even bogged once. Just low rpm it during the heavy rains and avoid standing water and you should be fiine
