I've found a lot of posts regarding tire size. I'm about to order a set of RS2's and I know the 245/45-16's are right for the rear of my AP1, but I'm still a little unclear about whether to go with oem 205/55's on the front or 225/50's. One guy said he had "crowning" using the 225's. Anyone else have an opinion on which front is best? I use the car for street and autox.

Thanks

Toyo Proxy 4
Front - 205/55/R16
Rear - 245/50/R16

3 Reasons:
-Don't try to kill me in the rain
-cheap
-good life

To me the most important thing in a tire is wet grip, if I crash in the rain I don't have a car anymore. (Spun my car on 408 at 70mph with the stock tires. I got lucky, then got tires)

I run 225's on the front. They are wide for the wheel, but I like the look. Plus they help out a little if you autocross. I just wish someone made some 255's for the rear!

Scottrunsxc,

Are you running RS2's? It sounds like the right combination.

I have no idea what "crowning" is...but if you aren't running a stiffer front swaybar, the 205 in the front will give your car the best balance. A 225 has some good performance advantages, but it will also make the car tend towards oversteer.

Thanks negcamber. That's what I'm looking for. I'll get the 205's. I'm running the stock fsb.

Yeah I'm on RS2's. I don't so much feel like the car oversteers more as I feel like it understeers less, if that makes any sense. But I'm not the best driver in the world, so take what I say with a grain of salt

I really like my Toyo T1-R's... Good mileage/wear and sticks pretty good.

On my second set...

on my second set of RS2 rears (245/45 - 16) but still the first set of fronts (225/50 - 16). So far about 6 months of driving on them (15k miles) so the fronts aren't bad but the rears are already due to be replaced any day now (especially with all the rain I hope we get soon).

I drive fairly hard and it's my daily driver with a 60+ mile roundtrip to work every day.

When the set was new i went to Gainesville for an open track day and they performed really well. I still believe that the sidewalls could be a little stiffer ... but they are still predictable even when 'snap' oversteer occurs.

I like them and will be ordering another set today for the rear. But, i do want to try the Tech M500's next.

But ... in the end i will be 'forced' to buy 17's soon because I have yet to find anything wider than a 245 in a 16inch that has the correct aspect/ratio.
