Default took some turns today

so me and my buddies know of a location in central florida that is a undeveloped neighborhood that never was/will be completed. for those that live around the east side its known as "the compound"

so we went out there today and did some goofing around. it was my first time with the s2000 going at any turns with speed. and wow did she handle GREAT! both my friends cars have Tein coilovers and always talk about the handling. anywho. there are 3 total videos on youtube.

this one is pretty good..and funny. i love the "WOAAH CONFUSION" i laughed so hard once i watched it. i was very excited to be there

and i know. i need to drive with both hands on the wheel. i dont know why i have a complex about holding it

remember this was my first time. so i was pretty excited!

here is my solo run trying to go...i pretty much overheated my tires by the end, and the wet conditions didnt help. you'll see...

Want a comment? okies...

Instead of driving in dangerous conditions on roads that you aren't supposed to be on, why not bring that enthusiasm towards speed out to a sanctioned race where safety is being taken into consideration, and you have experienced instructors who are ready and willing to help you become a better driver?

http://www.cfrsolo2.com (no more events this year, but they start back up in January)

http://www.martinsportscarclub.net (has an event on the 14th... go HERE to sign up)

http://www.wedrivefast.com (Has an event this coming weekend in Brooksville (north of Tampa)... the online signup is closed, but there was at least one person who cancelled, so a spot might still be open... contact info@wedrivefast.com if you'd like to register for it)

Also, the 'FAST' group has a novice autocrossing school coming up on Jan 10th that you really should think about attending... it'd be good for you. More info can be found in THIS thread..

And it really is ok to take your hand off the shifter... really... it is...

with John, except for the shifter part. Always two hands on the wheel. Use "the force" to downshift.

At least you used empty safer roads to test the limits of your car. Certainly smarter than busy streets. But a few Auto-Xs will teach you alot.

Glad you had fun but wet conditions and driving with one hand on the wheel is not good.

, even the part about using the force.

Watching your vids, a lot of your tail sliding was done at speeds around 35mph-goes to show you how tail happy the S can get in the wet. Keep that in mind when your out daily driving.

And to add to John's AUTOX suggestions, you should also look into Chin Motorsports and their HPDE track days.

yah. most of the time i was TRYING to get it a lil sideways...i would always gas it hard at the end of the turns. id like to go back and lay down a "good" run. the roads were wet, and it kept raining. but we drove an hour to get there. we figured what could happen besides running off the road. which i did. lol.

next time im going back, both hands on the wheel..and try to not fish tail every time!

if i go to an auto-x i wouldnt get enough time in. id rather do this till i feel that i KNOW my car, as i just got it about 2 months ago...im still learning the limits. then ill go auto-x and learn the more advanced techniques. but for now..this is the most fun ive had in a while!

and yes. this road is completely safe. there is NO traffic. its blocked off, and miles from any other cars...secret local!

thanks for the advice i really want to get into auto-x....one day

Fast is doing an AutoX school on January 10th. You will be able to drive all day long with no course work. It's once a year and you should do it. Learing the limits in a parking lot is better then on the street. Dont get me wrong i like to do what you are doing but learning the car really helps

so your saying instead of a nice paved road. a nice paved parking lot is better.

therefore, a autoX is a better place than a road course?

granted yes. autoX is the best "legal" racing. but this is no mans lands. i can go and do whatever. when im ready for some organization ill check out autox.

my friends who were also in the videos go often, they said i need to go! so its only a matter of time. im sure ill see you guys out there soon!

im just nervous ill forget the track and go off on my own! lol

i really cantw ait to get back and try and get better at that back end sliding out. tho the rain didnt help at all...
