Thumbs up Different Mileage on Different Gas?

I used to always use Shell V-Power in my S, but needed to pump at a Mobil gas station a few tanks back... I was a little surprised when I got a few more miles from the tank of Mobil gas compared with what I regularly saw from a fill-up w/ Shell - just under an mpg more over the tank (enough to notice, but not enough to be sure it was the different gas)

When I went back to Shell, it seemed like I got slightly fewer miles again...

Before the Day Trip, I filled up again at a Mobil station & didn't think too much about the mileage, but got 337 miles @ 26.3mpg from the tank full, which included some spirited driving on the way back - definitely a few times on Hwys 141, 44, & 109

Anyone else seen different mileage from different brands of gas?

I believe your dealing with a placebo effect. If you are filling upo with 93 octane, there shoul dnot be much difference between brands to make a huge milage difference.

These differences tend to come from various factors
* Diving Habits - frequency of Vtec
* City vs. Highway
* Out door temprature
* Humidity level
* Use of Air Conditioning
*.. .the list goes on

If you compare gas brands, all comparision shoul dbe done under the exact same conditions. Otherwise your results WILL vary.

I'd agree except for a few things: the use & driving habits are pretty consistent & I don't get into Vtec much in daily use, but did on the Day Trip and that was on Mobil... that's why the 26.3 mpg for the tank was so surprising

If anything the placebo effect should be reversed in favor of Shell since that was my 93-octane gas of choice, & on the Shell fill up after my S's first 'taste' of Mobil I was almost deliberately trying to get more gas mileage from the next tank-full of V-Power, but couldn't

My point is that my results do vary from one tank to the next but typically a fill-up of Mobil seems to go a bit further ... not by a huge amount, but enough to

No A/C here - that's what the hood is for

Now that's a shame!

Because QT gas is a couple cents cheaper - I've recently been filling with the 91 octane they sell (I know -- that's stoopid), but I typically get 26.5 mpg or better AND hop on the VTEC daily (at least for a few minutes).

Do you notice any difference on the QT 91 octane, Ron?

PS What does that save you: ~25c / tank?
PPS I figure I save ~$10 / year if I get an extra half mpg

I've been getting QT 91 octane since owning my S and consistently pull down 27mpg. Vtec is touched on a daily basis several times. I was rather surprised.
