Are there any driving schools in the area for performance driving?

I was also wondering this. I heard the good ones are like $2000 or more though.

check out these sites. the first is phil wicks driving school. cost is about $200. not sure about the second one. different clubs in st. louis rent out gateway and have driver's day. they put you with an instructor and teach you the finer points of driving. there are ferrari, bmw, viper and porsche clubs out there that all have driver ed days. you don't have to be a member of their club to participate. they usually have openings. members do have first pick though. you may have to pay a little more than a member. all types of cars are involved. i just did a phil wicks course on the sat before easter. i was in the intermediate group. there was 8, 20 minutes sessions and it cost $200. the instructors were scca racers and others in the know. i had the only s2000, quite a few vipers, mini coopers, subaru wrx's, a couple preludes etc...
hope this helps a little.

They have one every now and then at Gateway, it's expensive though.

Did you see the post about the BBQ?

My job has been taking almost all of my time for the last month.
It will be the same for at least one more month.

Otherwise I would join you at the BBQ.
I appreciate you are going to a lot of hassle to set things up.
If I could, I would be there.
I hope things turn out well for you all.

Anyone wanting to really drive their car, this is it. I've done it twice, and well worth the money IMO. It's pretty cool watching the Ferraris, Porches, NSXs and even some S2000's run the track. Cost is $225.00 for non members of the Ferrari club. Hope to see you there. The following was taken from an email sent by Phil Wicks.

"The Phil Wicks Driving Academy, in conjunction with the Ferrari Club of America, will host a Phil Wicks Driving Academy and Safe Driving Academy on Saturday, July 24, at Gateway International Raceway. The Safe Driving Academy is for newly permitted or licensed drivers, or for anyone wishing to take the course. The rates are a little different than in the past. Be sure to go to the website(s) and check it out."

You might want to think about joining the St. Louis Prelude Club. Yeah, I know... you don't have a Prelude but neither does 8 of our members (out of 37 paid members). The non-Prelude members we have, have joined the club since we promote a professional, we organized, mature club atmosphere where street racing is frowned upon. We organize and hold monthly install days, 2-3 dyno days a year, participate in track days, and meet up almost every other week for super, movies, pool, etc. The key for us is strength in numbers which allows us to get discounts for track days, products and services locally. Membership cost is only 20$ which goes directly back to keeping the club running (website, business cards, special projects). Think about it, the track day in April was regularly 200$. For STLPC members it was 170$... being an STLPC member would have paid itself for that day alone.

Anyhow, just a thought... come check us out -> www.stlpreludeclub.com

keith,
just sent an email to jacques about joining your club. don't know how active i can be, but i know it will be well worth the investment. hope other s2000 owners will also join. like you said, just the discount off the track days will pay for the fee. thanks

Aweome Bill! Track days aren't the only benefit mind you. Huey's Honda is one of our affiliates and you can pick up OEM Honda parts and supplies at discounted prices. BTW, the reason why I'm on this board is cause I've been bouncing back and forth on getting an S2K. I came close to getting one last year but it looks like the end of this year or early next year, I'll be driving around topless... so you definitely won't be the only S2K owner in the club.
