Howdy!
Glad to see there is a presence here for the gateway city.
So I've drooled over S2000's for several years, and finally reached a point that there is garage space and sufficient funds for a third car (along with the fiance's approval
) - so, now the proud owner of an '03, I'm looking for pointers on preferred mods, good parts, quick tricks, etc.
Not new to Honda (previously owned a '98 Prelude, heavily modified), but as with other makes, there are always little hidden tweaks to be performed, along with tricks that have been learned along the way.
So far nothing has changed on the little beast-to-be, but the little misses is already asking for better exhaust, heavier clutch, etc... not a bad thing by any means!
Suggestions, comments, club meetings?
Looking for newbie info,
- MikeyG

Driving school or autocross is the best first mod. This car is very different from almost every other car out there. It can be your best friend or you worst enemy; cause it will find a fault in you an exploit it and it's very unfogiving when it does.
As for mods to the actual car. The usual stuff like intake, header, and exhaust aren't going to yeild much of a gain. The engine is so highly tuned from the factory that there isn't much to really change. As far as a stiff clutch, you would probably need to beef up the rear end as well; it breaks fairly easy.
A nice little 'trick' that you might want to do; is tighten up some of the slack in the throttle cable. You don't want to remove all the slack so that it affects the idle, but tighten it up a bit and it will help throttle response, especially on heel-toe downshifts.
100 octane also gives the S a nice feel.

Welcome Mike
Glad you found us. Congrats on your '03. There a quite a few things that can be done to the S, but gains are limited as Shawn indicated. I guess it all depends on your modification preferences and/or financial funds available to make the change. The s2ki search engine is your friend. Use it. There are so many posts out there explaining what other people have done with their S, the possibilities are endless.
We have just recently had our last meet of the year and so nothing else is planned until early spring. Check out the "pinned" topics at the top of our Forum. There is an events calendar which outlines the 2005 year.
One of our big events will be The Hills of Missouri run next May. Check it out and post if you are interested in attending.
Let's get you on our membership list as well. Please follow the instructions in this post and I'll get you started.Member List instructions
If you are interested in carrying the Gateway badge, let me know and I will assign it to you.
Good luck finding what you need, but if you don't, reach out to one of us. We'll get ya going
Yes - the S drives more like a late eighties porsche 911 with the flat six than any other I've had the pleasure of. Probably b/c the S is technically a mid-engine roadster. They do tend to be a little unforgiving, esp. if you let up in a corner a little early.
As far as the rear-end - if that's the weakest point, that's where I ought to start - any suggestions?

But if the rear end is where you want to start, do a search in "Under the Hood" using 4.25 gears or 4.77 gears and you will get 5 pages of posts back. Start your search "Search Posts from Newer than Any Day"
