Bad experience
Guy's
I have bad news. In GA it is perfectly LEGAL to buy a car at an insurance auction and "rebuild" it.
Having done a few for my selfto use the proscess goes like this.
1) Car is declared a total and towed off to a lot where every week, junkyards and rebuilders bid
on them. The insurance co. suposedly recoups money thi way (not much)
2) A rebuilder "rebuilds the car" (the quality varies) the applies to the state to have a rebuilt title
issued.
3) The car and paperwork are inspected by the GBI. This inspection isn't for QUALITY OF WORK.
But wether the car meets legal standards to be a motor vehicle. Also to establish that no
parts from stolen cars were used.
4) When the car has passed a new title is isued. Here's where t get's interesting, the last time I built a car I was not issued a title marked "rebuilt" because 2 or more major components were not replaced.
So. This guy MAY have done a legal thou slimmy thing not to disclose the damage

Has anyone run a carfax report for you yet?
OMG!!!
Man, I was just kidding when I said that was probably 850's car! Unfrickin' beleiveable, I've seen this kind of story on Dateline NBC but didn't think it I would actually know the car that was part of the fraud.
Bigtime lawsuit if they don't fess up. All I can say is thank goodness for this board!

Well here's the problem. I ASKED this guy if it had ever ben wrecked, and he said NO! I asked him several DOZEN times. I should have run the carfax, but I was so blinded by joy at FINALLY getting my dream car, and was so afraid that if I didn't jump on this good deal, that someone else would. I admit it was not the most prudent of choices I have ever made, but this guy misrepresented a high dollar item, and now he has my money! I'm calling my lawer tomorrow..... I'll definately keep all you great guys updated!
Hisforhonda,
I still have the old window sticker with the VIN# on it! I might even have the letter from the insurance company which confirmed the car was "totaled". (But I need time to look for it, because I had just move a lot of my stuff into my storage unit because of the installation of new carpet in my condo!)
Pm me if you would like more information and any help which I can provide it to you to get your money back.
Sorry to hear that it was my old wreck! The motor should be okay, but the suspension is a wreck!
BTW, here is the link to our local Atlanta S2000 website with pictures of my car!
