Default Ignition disabled....

I got in the car this morning, and tried to crank the car. It would not start. The little green key icon was flashing. This indicates that the ignition was disabled because "it thinks" the key is not in the ignition. There is an ignition enabling chip in the key. As a security feature of your car, the ignition will not start, unless this chip is detected.

So what went wrong? I was using my key! The system chip inside the car went bad! I had the car towed to Ed Voyles. They are going to replace the chip.

I am also having the TSB55 done. I will let you know how it goes! My service rep indicates that the fix may not get rid of all the sound, but it will help.

Hoping to see you guys on Friday!!

Todd

Did you try your other 2 keys to make sure it was the chip and not a somehow damaged key?

Yes, did you try another key? When will you have the car back? The clutch should only take 1 day.

Man! I hope this is an isolated incident and not the beginning of some recall issue. I hate that it happened to you. The manual does mention something about "dropping keys" yada yada so could be you slammed them down on the driveway right?

Modern technology still has its flaws. "The more you tighten your grip... the more star systems will slip through your fingers" so said Princess Lea in Star Wars? The point being that the more advanced our technology becomes the more that can go wrong usually does. Sad but true.

I got my car back today from the shop, and I could not be more pleased with the results.

The buzzing sound is completely gone (or not noticable)!

I almost missed a shift because it did not sound like it had reached the top.
Sincerely recommend TSB055 for anyone expereincing the problem.

I hope this lasts!!!!

Glad all went ok! I just wanted to add my $.02 on the key thing. The same thing happened to my '95 Lumina (company car) that I used to have. It has a similar kind of security feature in the key. I went to start the car one evening and it didn't do anything. Sooo, I got out the manual. I read that the contact on the security thing might be dirty and to try to clean it off. I didn't see anything on it, but cleaned it a bit anyway. Voila! Car started right up! Was I relieved!

Also, thanks for your call today Todd! I appreciate your sentiments....
