That would be correct - I really, really don't like actual ketchup. The stuff is nasty...

Wiki says it was the King's personal Chef. I like the stuff personally. Never had HP, but they do have it here in the "British" section along with Irn Bru and Heinz beans, etc.

HP has a more vinegar (sharp) taste than A1, and it's just different.

I use it as a marinade for steaks too, along with a few other things. Nothing like ketchup at all, but it's not meant to be a substitute for ketchup, much like A1 isn't either.

I know this and I'm okay with it.

I think I was scarred as a youth. My mom did some pretty horrible things to vegetables and there is a particular incident with stewed tomatoes that, to this day, makes me break out in a cold sweat just to think about it. Somewhere along the way I associated ketchup with that event and haven't been able to touch the stuff since.
