ok here's a question HAW folks:

server took a dump, rebooted - outlook messed up. I can no longer search for emails in outlook folders. Will that correct itself or is some important file that made all that happen gone forever. ?

did ya close and reopen outlook? and/or reboot (to kill any temp files)

If it is Microsoft exchange could be the exchange index service is not started or it is playing catch up and is offline

^ What Mark said. So since you've already open/closed/rebooted, it's likely a server-side issue with your mail system (Exchange or whatever you use).
