Looks nice, to me...

Low ceilings in the basement are going to be a problem with any home built before 85. It just is what it is. Usually there isn't anything you can do about it aside from significant renovation. Just chalk it up to the "charm" of an older home.
true... was thinking of relocating the ducts to the sides of the wall or getting smaller thinner ducts.
