i had a friend, at around the same time period, that really did buy some stock. he invested in a company called "Varsity", they make cheerleading outfits. I'm not sure if they were up and coming at the time, but he made around 50% of his investment in 2 weeks.
Timing is important. You need to be in the front of stuff like that. Even if the company has a great product, you need to buy it while they are gaining market share. Once they have it, the stock will go flat. It may even loose if a competitor comes out with a better product.
This is the biggest reason tech stocks and the NASDAQ are so volatile.
