Got a question for you wrench types... *cough* Peter, Kev... *cough*...
What is the shelf life of an opened container of say... tranny fluid or diff fluid??? I know brake fluid starts to go bad as soon as you open it but I am not so sure about the lubricant type fluids... Curious about motor oil, too...

The problem with brake fluid is that it is hydroscopic and will absorb water which will lower it's boiling point.
Petrolium based products like lubicating oils do not suffer the same fate.
I have never seen any limit to storing/keeping oils. I used some 2yr old anti-freeze the other day.

I have kept sealed motor oil around for a looooooong time, but I was curious what to do with my left over tranny fluid.
In all honesty, it ain't really enough to even worry about.
More than anything, I am just curious.
Thanks for the info, Pete!

If I go away too long, they will just replace me.
