That's the thing though. You take care of good speakers and they will last a proverbial lifetime. I don't ever anticipate needing to upgrade these Boston Acoustics. I MIGHT would upgrade the sub if I were to get a bigger place. A triple driver Velodyne should do the trick. 

to a point. The receiver is a big ticket item that gets out dated pretty quickly. New sound processors come out pretty regularly. Not to mention the whole HDMI thing...
I suppose a really good one will last a long time so long as you don't upgrade anything else. I just think this is unlikely with the way TV's are going. I cannot even fathom what is next.
