Default Death of a rockstar

Ok, time has come where I have to man up. I recently changed my major from computer engineering -> communications. Shoulda saw the look on my advisor's face when I dropped it on her. She was very overwhelmed because I was actually doing good in this major (3.4gpa). I just switched cause I was getting bored in my classes. I really love photography and videography. Communications was the closest thing to that. So that's why I switched. took me a good couple of months to think it through.

But yeah, with this switch comes a hard hit to my wallet. I lost my full ride schoalrship to www.odu.edu and now pay for every stinkin' thing. Never thought it would end up like this. I guess the positive of this is that I won't be spending my money carelessly, like on food, and I might actually lose weight. year right.

I knew these 3 jobs I have will pay off. I rarely have any time for my family, and barely hangout with my friends (unless it's car show weekend). I'm giving up a lot of time and energy for this stinkin' degree so it better pay off. Good bye to buying things for my car, good bye for buying things for myself, good bye to buying things for +1's, good bye to buying things in general. There goes my house I wanted, there goes my supercharger, blah!

Don't worry Carlo. It seems as though your heart is into Photography and videography. (either that or a salesman) You'll be fine.

Being happy > everything else.

Tom is correct, follow your heart now, your young, this time will pass so very fast that you will not remember the small sacrifices you had to make. The end game is the dream. If this is what you want to do for a career then go for it full tilt. Don't let the little day to day things get in the way, focus on the goal and when you have the degree and a great job the other things will come, and they will come easier than if you tried to do them now.

Yes it is sad that we cannot afford to do all this when young and capable....trust me I KNOW.. ;-(

Wish I had done what you are doing now. But sadly you can't look back, just look forward and be happy.

If you do what you love, you'll never hate going to work in the morning. My best to you. My daughter is pretty much paying her own way and working a zillion hours a week so she can live on her own and choose her destiny so I can appreciate that this must have been a heart-wrenching choice. My hat's off to you. Sorry I didn't get to see you in Richmond Sunday -- maybe next time. Best wishes.

It takes a man to make a decision like that...putting your fun/toys/enjoyment aside of your own free will to do something that affects your future in such a big way. Hard work always pays off man... And I'm sure it's better to put hard work towards something you like to do. If only I could stop being so lazy now...

Wish you all the best man.

WOW!!! Is this a Joke?

You went from Computer Engineering starting salaries 50~60k to a communications major lucky to be working McDonalds at $6 an hour.

And in doing so lost out on a full scholarship!

Damn you got to have some big bawls. Good bye to the S and never seeing it again. Sorry man if this is a little harsh but damn!!!!!

Personally, I'd rather drink from puddles on the sidewalk while doing what I love than make $50-60K doing what I don't love.

The only reason I'm a temp now making much less than I did a few months ago is because I got sick of my old job and left. And that job wasnt even from any education I had gotten. I don't think I'd want to spend a few years of my life getting education that would then lead me down a path that I am not happy with.

Carlo.. good luck Bro. I did kind of the same as a young buck back in the day. I had a full ride to Chicago Univ. of Art for Architecture, right after high school. I went for a semester and decided that it wasn't for me, that I wanted to be in law enforcement. So, I gave up the scholarship, came back home and joined the military, just so that I could have a leg up, and became a military police officer. And the rest as you know, is history. Been in law enforcement my whole life after that. I also went back to Univ. of Md. to finish off my Criminal Psych degree. I don't regret that decision one bit, since I love what I do. I'm sure you won't need it, but good luck to you.
