Yeah the last thing you need with boost is gears. Really short gearing is terrible for boost. Stock gearing is almost too short for a boosted setup making any kind of decent power.
I know this first hand from when I had my WRX. At one point I had the sti 6spd transmission in my car and then I switched it back to a built 5spd gearbox and the car felt significantly quicker.
If you had a dope sequential gearbox that let you shift lightning quick then the shorter gearing might actually be worthwhile but otherwise you're chewing through your powerband so fast you'll actually be slower.
This is part of the reason some sti guys are making 500whp and can barely dip into the 11s. sure driving has something to do with it but stick a 5spd in those cars and they'll start dropping the times like crazy.

Thats exactly what I been thinking. I was also worried about highway cruising, I sit a little under 4k going 60 in sixth. I was worried about overheating a SC or turbo setup from it sitting in boost just cruising.
If I'm going to change my gears before hand I will probably just go stock or find a longer ratio that would fit my setup.
Edit: Ok just got done reading a bunch about Gearing and SC w/ gears. From what I read 4.57 and and a stock SC system should be a good match, it's more of a worry when you start hitting higher boost because you will redline so quickly and spin tires alot. I will probably just try out the 4.57's with a SC if anything.
