Default maintenance light

so about a month ago my maintenance light started flashing when I started my car and it goes away. now it just stays on.. I already changed my oil when it started flashing. does anyone know what might be wrong? or is there any place that can check my CEL code for free? I heard checkers doesn't do it anymore..

there's a diff between maint req'd and CEL.

it's just a reminder..it's not connected to any sensors, just mileage

1. Insert the key into the ignition, turn it all the way to position II (do not start the engine).
2. Turn the key back to the OFF position.
3. Press and hold the trip reset button on the dash.
4. (While still holding the trip reset button) Turn the key all the way to position II. In about 15 seconds, the Maint Req’d light will go out.

The indicator light automatically triggers every 7500 miles or so to remind you about your fluids etc.

now if it's a CEL, i believe marc2 has an obd scanner tool...

the maintenance light needs to be reset. it was flashing for your oil change. see below:

"Resetting the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED Light

The Maint. Req. light acts as a reminder for you change the oil change. It's set to follow the "normal" maintenance schedule. This light works in a couple stages. Initially when xxxx milage is reached the like will blink a few times every time you start the car. Eventually when you have driven another xxx miles the light stays solid until you reset it, but the light can be reset anytime by following the steps below.

It's the one on the right it says "MANT REQ"

* - Put the key in the ignition and in the "OFF/LOCKED" Position.
* - Hold the Trip/Reset Button on the right bottom corner of your gauge cluster (see pic)
* - Now - Turn key to the "ON" Position while continuing to hold the Trip/Reset Button till the light goes off.
* ***If the light is still at the "blinking" stage and not yet solid - continue to Hold the button for around 25-30 seconds just to make sure it resets. ***"
