I love the V1. The other detectors may claim more range or less falses, but the arrows of the V1 are awesome and I have never had a problem with excessive falses. It just works! It hasn't ever let me down and has GREAT range in my experience. It also is the detector that I am most used to, so that would add to my bias.

Lots of discussion on this topic already......but to some it all up....it's preference....

There in no ONE dectector that has it ALL....

Valentine is unique in that along with the bogey counter....it tells you direction with arrows. Aside from that...you can get just as good performance from a slightly less expensive model.

I had the bell 8500....now I have the V-1.

Hardwire it though...it only takes about 35 minutes with the right clip for the fuse box.

It's the best radar.
Abilities are similar to the X50 8500, but for the extra money you get the arrows.
Be sure to hardwire it so you don't have that goofy cord across your cockpit.
I'll get one of these radars before Xmas, I hope...

I've had the Valentine for a couple of years now and it's great. I've tried others, and some of them are good also, but like the other poster said-it just works. Just don't leave it unattended in the car or it will be working for someone else and you will be sending another 4 bills to Mr. V for a replacement.

Is there a DYI for hardwire installations for the V1?

yes, the V1 is that good. I've had mine since '94 or so (right after they came out) and it still works awesome. I'm not kidding.
