Default Journey Time Trial signs

On the A34 near the Wantage turn, there's some signs saying "Journey Time Trial". It shows that lorries are prohibited in the right hand lane, and after 3/4 mile there's a "Journey Time Trial Finished" sign.

There's no cameras or sensors I can see.

What's all that about then? Does anybody know?

There has been a stretch like that on the A14 Westbound for as long as I can remember. Basically the idea is that in busier hours, lorries aren't allowed to overtake eachother and generally get in the way.

To an extent, it works. However:

- it relies on the lorry drivers' integrity as there is nothing to stop them ignoring the signs

- it doesn't help against the 56mph car brigade when they want to overtake a line of lorries at +.05mph.

That sounds quite sensible, though there are a hundred other hills where the lorries are still allowed to overtake each other. And as Keith says it's the slow people who overtake the lorries at 0.00001mph faster that tend to cause the problems rather than the lorries themselves.

What the A34 really needs is signs saying "Try driving on the left you ******* bunch of selfish, inconsiderate ****** ****** ******* *******".

Or something to that effect.

Late reply apologies

Drive the A34 every day and it is a nightmare but the hill they've got the trial on has benefitted alot imo as it sometimes had tailbacks while lorries were doing their 1mph faster uphill overtakes

Imagine if the 'trial' is successful it'll be rolled out to a couple of the other larger hills on the A34

it's been like it for years and if you don't want to turn into a sheep then undertake

I don't find the motorways much different

lane discipline is THE biggest problem on the roads

you can see it on the M25 where they have widened it

there are now two or three empty lanes on the inside with choked outside lanes

don't forget - it's technically legal to continue at a constant speed in an inside line and undertake traffic in the outside lane.

What isn't allowed is to alter ones speed in order to make said undertake, or to be in an outside lane then change to inside lane to "undertake" then change back to outside lane.
