Default How to make an adapter to allow the use of Rick's Radiator Badge for Steering Wheel

Ok, I finally got my lazy butt to photo-document this easy cheap home-made mod (I guess you can call it yet another SPUGEN mod )

First off you need to go to your local grocery store and pick up a small round container of Diamond L'elegance (ooo lala) Toothpicks (250 count size). Cost is about $5. See below.

The part that we are going to use is the bottom section, which incidentally cups very nicely over the stock steering wheel badge.

This bottom part will eventually be dremeled off for use.

Prior to dremeling though, you'll want to trial fit the bottom of the toothpick jar over your stock steering wheel badge. More than likely, there'll be a little extra clearance that you'll need to sand down. Obviously, be careful not to sand down too much. It's better to have a little extra plastic there than not enough.

You'll also want to scuff up the underside of the bottom part, for an extra added level of surface grip for the contact cement later.

Once you're happy with the fit, go ahead and take a dremel to it. Don't worry about being exact, as you'll sand down the excess afterwards.

After you dremel off the bottom piece, discard the top piece. Now sand down the excess remaining plastic until you have a nice smooth even finish with what used to be the bottom of the inside of the toothpick jar.

Now you're ready to paint. Prime and use either flat black or glossy black. Flat black will blend a little better with the black color of the steering wheel, while glossy will match the "S" in Rick's Radiator badge (which is kinda cool, b/c it gives the illusion that the radiator badge and adapter are just one thick unit).

When painting make sure the get the edges, as this will be the only part of the adapter you'll be able to see once everything is put together.

After the paint dries, go ahead and apply your Rick's Radiator Badge to the top of the adapter. Should fit *perfectly*

Add some contact cement to the underside of the adapter, and also some to the stock steering wheel badge, center, and install! I've had mine on now for about 4 months and it's still rock solid with no signs of looseness, etc.

Not really, the process is pretty quick and simple. Now the post and the photo-documenting on the other hand.... THAT killed my ass!

i have to say, i dont get this at all!
a much easier way to do this:
go to rick's site and order the steering wheel badge- it fits perfectly and was meant to go there.
btw, no toothpick jars or dremels required!

let's see rad badge = $7.50 plus $5.00 shipping plus toothpick $3.00 net total $15.00 smaller footprint

stearing wheel badge = $25.00 plus shipping $30.00 larger footprint

I like this idea but would the toothpick holder leave a permant mark on my forhead (like the guys from Stargate) if the airbags deploy??

LOL.... yeah, for me anyway, it wasn't to save money... but rather a preference in asthetics. Plus, now I can finish my log cabin with the remaining toothpicks.
