The purpose of this thread is to list in one place all threads that involve someone running or has run a scam on merchandise. It is NOT here to make judgments as to guilt or innocence. Please do NOT make such comments here. Post your replies here with a link ONLY to a thread where someone has been scammed. I will review that thread and add the link to this first post so that they are all together and easier to view.
Also, here is another thread along the same lines as this one that be useful to look at:

DO NOT post links involving "sponsors" or "bad" dealers. These need to be handled differently.

Some hints to minimize the chance of getting scammed:
1. Do your homework.
2. Take a close look at the seller or buyer's "forum age". Look at his profile and check out his posts in all his threads to get a feel for his character. If he is "young" in "forum age" or has shown to be an unpleasant or obnoxious individual, do you want to do business with him?
Before completing the deal, get the person's full name, address, phone (home, business, cell), email, driver's license number. If the person refuses, then he might have something to hide ........................... RUN!
3. If possible, get a known and solid forum "user" in that city to go check out the person. Or ask for a testimonial from a known forum user.
4. DO NOT go only by "username". That can be changed in the next deal. Read each of these links carefully to find distinguishing "characteristics" of the scammer - like name, city, age, etc.
5. Use "escrow" service if available.
6. Check out T.I.T.S. as a fall back: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=95561

Any other suggestions welcome and I'll "copy and paste" them in this post to keep them handy should this thread get too long.

I think buying from an Enthusiast is a big warning flag. If someone won't take 5 min to register as an owner, you should be suspicious ie. where did they get the parts? Several enthisiast have posted stuff in the For Sale and never responded to PM or worse, taken money and sent no product. There's nmy 2 cents (50bucks canadian) worth.

Have you seen the exchange rate lately? It's going up. Should be $49.95 today.

Can anyone suggest a reputable escrow service? I just read an article about several that have been shut down.

I use paypal as it seems to be safer and if you do not get a package in 30 days they take ur cash back and return it to you.

I registered my vin and all but still doen't say owner? Why is that?

http://escrow.com/
www.simple-escrow.com

i have used the first one many times, i was suggested to use the second one by an international ebayer, but didnt win the auction.

charges were reasonable and can be split between the 2 users.

i usually use this payment method for items over 100.00

Tim, this issue seems to be popping a bit lately. PM HondaGal and she'll fix you up.

Hey Jerry, I suggest you do not recomend that second so called escrow service from your post(www.simple-escrow.com). Don't know if the Ebayer you are writing about was the one with the turbo for sale but I was contacted by that guy after bidding on his auction and losing. He suggested this service. I did a quick search and it and similar dirivatives of the name of the site were listed as scams. They take your credit card # and rip you off.

I am under the impression that banks will set up escrow accounts for a minimal fee. I'll look into that and let you know.
