I had originally questioned the use of over the road (OTR) oils for our cars, but had not seen this product. It is also SL-rated, which is very unsual. It has high amounts of esters, little or no moly (doesn't need it), has very high TBN, and high levels of anti-wear. It looks to be an excellent choice for hot weather or FI use.
I ordered up some (from Mobil on spec) and will be checking it out.
I'll be the guinea pig for the Delvac. RR did the homework and I'll do some follow up. Oil preferences seem to engender religious fervor amongst many so I'll try to stay honest here. I also have a 1984 Mercedes 300SD, so can use the same oil in both cars which is nice. I have been using Delvac in my s2k for a bit over 25k miles now. First change was with a mileage interval of 11k and 22 months (wasn't driving much at the time). Second Delvac change was with 15k mileage interval after 7 months. I add oil when I am about 1/4 to 1/2 qt from full. Car seems to use a little less than 1 qt every 5k miles. Prior to this change I added 2.5 qts and the dipstick read 1/4 qt low when I changed oil. I wish RoadRage were still around to give me comments. He would likely tell me to change the filter at the halfway point between changes which I haven't done but may next time.
Wow! This looks like a very good oil for extremely long OCI's in the S2K. I also would agree that changing the filter at the mid-way point would be wise if you continue with these OCI's or longer. Is it still SL rated? You need to post these UOA's on BITOG. There are alot of extended drain fans over there that will give you their uninhibited $.02.
INDYMAC- Looks like high phosphorus and zinc compared to lots of other oils out there. It is rated as an SL oil on the container. I'll try to make it 20K next time with changing the filter as you suggest as 10K. Thanks for the comments. john
Could Road Rage or someone else knowledgeable please share their take on Liqui Moly Synthoil High Tech 5w40 for year round use? I believe Liqui Moly is labeled Lubro Moly in the states.
It's an API SM. How good is it? I'm only really concerned with wear protection and deposit formation prevention in severe driving conditions. No extended drain. I change my oil at 5000 miles. 7000 tops.
I'd also like to know whether their 5w40 weight diesel synthetic (Liqui Moly Diesel Synthoil 5w40) is better seeing as how it's only rated an API CF (no S rating at all, I'm guessing it wouldn't qualify SM because of the wear additives so they never bothered to put it up for S certification) oil and perhaps (hopefully?) contains elevated concentrations of antiwear and dry lube additives like MoS2, ZDDP.
Where I live you can get it for a little under USD 100 for 5 litres. This is what I currently use.
Will do, 10x. I was hoping Road Rage would set me straight seeing as how he's a tribologist.
I decided to ask because he said Lubrication Engineers formulate the very best oils in the world. I was wondering if these 2 LM oils come anywhere close.
