Default Cabin turbulence mods complete - final report.

A little background:
1. I put in plexiglass inserts into the roll hoop holes.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ighlight=xviper

2. I then put in the Davies headrests.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ighlight=xviper

3. My full windscreen insert from Rick's arrived and have been installed but still waiting for the anti-vibration bumpers to come. I won't post pics since this has already been done and can be found using search.

I had the OEM windscreen to begin with. When I added the hoop inserts, the turbulence was reduced dramatically. When the headrests went in, there was an even more dramatic reduction. With this set-up, a conversation could be had at highway speeds. The stereo was perfectly audible. Now with the full size screen in place, I must confess that there is only a marginal improvement in turbulence. The difference from no windscreen to OEM screen was minute but noticeable. The change from OEM to full size is also minute but noticeable. Remember my mod with the 1mm size bug mesh across the roll hoops?
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ighlight=xviper (just past half way in this thread)
I was concerned that putting something solid across would only create a different kind of turbulence. I was right but the bug mesh looked a bit too home made so I elected to abandon it.

Conclusions: The roll hoop inserts and the headrests are the most effective mods for reducing cabin turbulence. In addition, the bug mesh across the hoops makes this issue the best that it can get. The full size windscreen adds only a slight improvement and produces a different but not unbearable effect. This is based on my height (5' 8"). Really tall guys just forget it and leave your toupes at home - nothing's going to help you. Just enjoy the complete outdoor experience and don't bother talking to your passenger.

ps. And yes, there are still those of you who say, "You bought a convertable, didn't you?" Why go to all this trouble? Because some of us just want to. (This post is for you.) You're free to NOT do whatever you don't want to. (This post is not for you.)

3/16"
I wouldn't go less than 1/8" - too much flex.
And no more than 1/4" - too much edge showing and too hard to do the final shaping.

I remember you were working on all of this stuff. With Mingster's aersoscreen, I have enough of a reduction in the wind turbulence. Mingster actually made cut outs for just the headrest, but he said they only worked up to 45 mph. Guess he needed to make rollhoop cutouts too.

I think Mingster used lexan instead of plxiglass due to the probelms with shaterring that plexiglass might have if hit by an object.

I have had the setup with the bug mesh up to 70 mph and you could still hear the music and converse. Let's face it, as you go faster, you get diminishing returns and nothing will work. I wanted something that would make it tolerable just bumming around town and the occasional jaunts to the outskirts. This does it for me.
As for the lexan, I'm not worried something's going to smash it (it's behind me separated by the headrest. Unlike some I don't drive backwards at breakneck speeds.

xviper, do you have any comment about using just the head-rest fillers with a windscreen (i.e., no roll hoop fillers)? I think you now have all the pieces to fill in the following combinations:

nothing (MY200 only): Lots of wind turbulence.
OEM windscreen only: Minute but noticeable reduction.
(Mingster, Rick) windscreen only: Noticeable reduction (marginal over OEM windscreen).
Roll hoop filler only: ???
Roll hoop filler + OEM windscreen: Dramatic reduction.
Roll hoop filler + Rick windscreen: ???
Headrest filler only: ???
Headrest filler + Roll hoop filler: ???
Headrest filler + OEM windscreen: ???
Headrest filler + Rick windscreen: ???
Headrest filler + Roll hoop filler + OEM windscreen: ???
Headrest filler + Roll hoop filler + Rick windscreen: Even more dramatic reduction.

I don't want to make the roll hoop fillers, but buying the headrest fillers is a possibility. Others may be interested in some of the other combinations. Thanks.

That lexan is usually UV resistant too. It will last much longer than plexiglass.

Just trying out the forum's photo storage facility so here's a pic.

Still waiting for the vibration bumpers from Rick but couldn't stand the rattling around so put in a couple of the foam inserts as a temporary solution.
